    Silver Grove teams typically do.

They graduated 6 seniors and 2 of them went on to play at the next level. That just left a lot of kids that did not log a lot of varsity minutes last year. Hackworth is the only returning starter. They had added a new kid who was on a 2 year sabotical (Gabe Roberts) and Coach Code is currently working on fitting the pieces of the puzzle together. He has been going deeper than he has in the past. Give him a few weeks and they will be just fine.

Silver Grove was at full strength for the first time last night, dressing nine players - albeit with kids coming back from having the flu and injury. Five of the nine are seniors.

The first half of this one was ugly. I was waiting for them to strike up the theme from the Bad News Bears in the 4-2 second quarter. A myriad of one-dones on both ends.

The second half was much better with Silver Grove hitting four downtowners and edging "us" 20-18. "We" put up 19 more in the fourth quarter while holding them to 7.

Silver Grove is now 0-3, having lost to Augusta, St. Henry, and Brossart. Their next four games are with Bellevue, Calvary, Heritage, and Dayton. I'm expecting the Grovers to win all four of those and have a winning record going into the Lloyd Invitational Tournament over the holidays.

Looks like they are playing for new Coach Brownstein... Would a result like this put the Grovers the the top of the early season DIII rankings?

I think D-III is a bear this year. Villa is playing well and Ludlow is big, strong, deep and tough.

I'd list the Trains as contenders, but not favorites.

3rd grade girls put up more points then that.

Mustang, so what were you and your internet radio partner talking about during the scoring drought?

All kidding aside, nice to see both teams turned things around in the 3rd quarter.

Was the Grove's 7 4th quarter points becuase of the 'Stangs "D", poor shooting, or a combination of the two?

We were talking about how much Bob Rowe or Willie Schlarman would have loved it. Improving our position by two points and taking a five point lead to the locker room at halftime.

    These aren't your father's Mustangs - Yet!
As such I think that we will ride the roller coaster for awhile this season. Our goal is to be primed and ready to win the 10th "A" again this year. Everything for this team between now and then is practice.

I do however feel that in time we will find ourselves and become a competitive team. We are certainly not the defensive titans of the past, but are working to get there, and need to cut down our turnovers along the way.

The Grovers 7 point fourth was due to our superior depth - wearing them out by keeping fresh legs in the game - and the fact that two of their starters fouled out mid-fourth.
