Whoa!
Beechwood just joined the big time!
This is one of those games that people normally talk about Beechwood winning, but it never happens! It looks like tonight it did.
Congrats to the Red and White Tigers!

Very exciting game. Coach Schumate is doing a great job with the team. Best Beechwood basketball game I have ever seen. Congrats Tigers and best of luck as you advance in the tournament.

I told you guys in the preview thread that a)it would be a barn burner and b)BW's 5 are better overall than HC's 5.
Hats off to Brian Romes. He does something that VERY few high schoolers do or know how to do. When Sorrell wanted to cut without the ball, Romes simply bodied up and cut him off. Its a lost art. There's no rule that says a defender has to follow behind or along side. It makes Sorrell work harder than he has to.
You then add in that HC didn't make Romes pay for bodying up. Sorrell was running all over the court trying to free himself up without the ball. Very rarely did HC pick Romes. Romes has to be picked 2 to 3 times per set if he's going to play chest-to-chest on Sorrell. There were times when Sorrell tried to run him off the pick but the picker let up and didn't set the pick. Great job by Romes. Terrible job by HC.
I know I'm in the minority but the two players that make BW go on offense IMO are Buettell and Romes.
BW's demise will be their FT shooting.

I was very impressed with Beechwood. Not sure of all the names of the boys but #21 is a very nice player. #23 Romes, did great job on Corey Sorrell. I can only remember Corey having 1 basket in the second half. I'm sure this is wrong and I'm sure Sandman can correct me.
Hall hit his 3pters when he needed to and Beechwood hit their FT's for the most point down the stretch.
For those that are going to try and press Beechwood. Good Luck they are already laying it in while you set it up.

Agreed. These two with the combination of #21 is the heart and sole of BW. Hall adds to these 3 and is 3pt compliment that they need. A week ago I had Alex Hall on my "Players to watch list". He's now off of it and #21 and Romes are added on to it.
On another not, Holy Cross players played hard. The difference in my opinion was BW outcoached HC.

Wildcatfan: Beechwood is a Division III basketball school. Their primary competition comes from other Division III schools. Normally when a Division III school ventures out of Division III, the results are not favorable. Despite their winning record, a win over mid-major Holy Cross is huge! Ludlow succeeded earlier this year against Conner, which was also a nice win for the Panthers.
Even the nice Beechwood team that Mike Herald coached with the other Romes boy a couple of years back, they rarely succeeded outside of Division III competition.
One big step for Division III basketball and for the Red and White Tigers tonight!!! That one will earn you some respect at Dickmann's.

I believe #21 is Nathan Snyder, not positive though. Beuttel is a great ball player and is the type of guy who you want to run your team. He always has the determination that you want in every player. Against Cov Cath he adjusted his game and was the only one who really drove to the basket. The Tigers can win the All A if they play up to there capability. Having Romes back really "gels" there team. Should be a great game between Beechwood and winner of NCC/ Newport. Good win Coach Shumate and tigers
