Spencer seems to have one really nice plaer (Conley) and a bunch of good shooters. I think they will be a good team, but not sure what kind of ceiling they have...especially given their lack of size

They will need to play with the same fire and intensity they showed last night, but game execution will need to be better. Lot of empty trips last night that can't happen Friday night, but they are capable of getting a W.

Spencer should be able to get over the 30th district hump next year. Collins will be good again but Anderson and Shelby shouldn't be. They seem to the last two years to struggle under the pressure of the post season. Last year they scored 71 on Anderson in the regular season game at Anderson. Then on the tournament game only managed 35 on 33% shooting and scored 6 of those 35 in the last :30 seconds or so. This season they put 76 on Anderson at home and only managed 41 last night. The stats for last night are not posted yet but wouldn't think they would be very good. Also next year they will get to host the district tournament that should help as well.

Losing Coke is going to hurt. Spencer County will return 4 out of their top 5 scorers next year. They definitely will not have size. I would think you will see a team that gets up and down the floor pressing and shooting threes. They will be loaded with shooters. Freshman Conley is a top 10 player in the state in the 2021 class. He is the man , but freshman point guard Whitlock is ranked on several top 25 list. Whitlock ran the team this year and averaged 8.6 points 3 assist and one turnover. Pretty solid numbers for a freshman starting point guard. So I would say he is not just a shooter. In the regular season game against Anderson County he controlled the game (ask the Anderson coaching staff about that). Keep in mind Conley and Whitlock are freshman. So I would say having two players of that caliber going forward on one team would at least make them pretty good. Spencer County was missing one of their top three point shooters last night due to flu. Yes another freshman Lucas Hornback who hit two threes against Anderson a few weeks ago. Hornback is considered a top freshman also. If Spencer County can develop one big guy or get a transfer with some size then they would be set. Still high school teams don't have to be big to be good. Defense and three point shooters trump size on high school level. Jackson Cole and Jacob Seawright who will be Seniors are two of the top three point shooters in region. I agree with the above post-- Anderson County is getting ready to drop considerably. They have had a nice long run.

All the excuses and “what ifs” in the world for Spencer. If they don’t have any size next year, they have zero chance of being competitive. Sure, they’ll win some games. But much like this year. When it comes time to grind, they’ll be short handed.

Spencer doesn't have much coming up from the middle school class as well. Especially players with size that can contribute. (That includes 6-8th) They will definitely need a transfer with some size to be better than this years team. They will have a decent starting 5 next year but not much of a supporting bench. The Whitlock kid needs to grow and Hornback needs to hit the weights and stay healthy. Their youth showed Wednesday against Anderson.

No excuses. Somebody asked what Spencer had coming back and I was telling them.

I would have to disagree with the youth comment. Spencer's only big guy had two fouls in the first quarter and played less than half the game. I think that was the biggest factor. I didn't notice the two freshman having bad games. I think the stats will show that.

At this time of the year, its all about the grind. Take a look at some of these scores. Without a shot clock if you don't have some dogs on your team with some size; opponents will grind you out. I think this is where Spencer got in trouble this year, and they're gonna have to find a way to fix it next year.

Confused as to your comment about the middle school talent. I would say there is more talent in grades 6-8 across the board than at anytime in the history of Spencer County. They have an 8th grade big guy dunking right now. So he would be in the class behind Conley,Whitock, Hornback. Enough about Spencer County. Our season is over and enjoy looking forward to the years to come. Watch out for Anderson County--they could be a spoiler team in the region for some teams this year.
