1. Covington Catholic (2-0): No real tests for the Colonels the first week of the season. They got in triple digits on opening night against Ludlow and won 67-52 Thursday against Lexington Catholic. They travel to Ft Thomas on Monday night for a showdown against the 2-0 Bluebirds.

2. Cooper (1-1): Cooper’s loss to Dunbar is surprising in that they only scored 46 points. They travel across the river Friday to take on Elder, prior to that they host, district opponent, Conner Tuesday night.

3. Newport (1-0): The Wildcats defeated Bishop Brossart to move up a slot this week. They should handle Dayton and Boone County this week before heading to Alexandria to face the Camels Friday Night.

4. Beechwood (3-0): The Tigers have put up a lot of points against some weaker opponents this week. They play the Scott Eagles on Monday and hope to avenge an early season loss last year.

5. Dixie Heights (0-1): The Colonels lost to a very good Walton Verona team to open the season. Dropping them two slots may have been a little harsh. They can win three games this week to show off their talent.

6. Conner (2-0): Conner only scored 51 points against St. Henry this week. Against Cooper on Tuesday, they will have to score in the 60s and have a strong defensive game to have a chance to win.

7. Highlands (2-0): Highlands had the most movement this week, moving from #10 to #7. A 10-point victory at Ryle has got to boost their confidence. I like this team, and by year’s end, they could be in the final four of the 9th region tournament. They play the Colonels Monday night, we’ll see what they’re made of.

8. Ryle (1-2): We should get a clearer picture of the Raiders at the end of this week. They play Simon Kenton, St. Henry, and Cooper. They have to win at least one game this week to get some kind of momentum rolling.

9. St. Henry (0-2): Talk about a rough start. The Crusaders host Covington Catholic and then travel to Ryle and Highlands.

10. Holy Cross (1-0): Coach Grammar’s debut resulted in a victory against Boone County. They travel to Campbell County and Covington Catholic this week.

11. Newport Central Catholic (0-0) Odd to see a team not play the first week. With Newport and Highlands having a solid week, the Breds may be destined for a #3 seed this year.

12. Holmes (1-1): The Bulldogs fell victim to 8th Region Cookin’ in Gallatin County. They should beat St. Pat’s on Tuesday before a showdown with Dixie Heights on Friday.

13. Lloyd Memorial (1-0): The Juggs travel to New Cath Monday, things will start shaking out soon. It was good to see them beat the 8th Region Owen County Rebels.

14. Ludlow (1-2): Coach Sullivan has these boys playing hard and fearless. They can win at least 3 of their next 4 games.

15. Boone County (0-3): The Rebels have struggled out of the gate. Their schedule does not get any easier. I’ll be surprised if they make it out of December with more than 2 wins.

16. Villa Madonna (0-3): This 0-3 team has given up a lot of points and with Dixie looming Monday, it may get a little worse. They do have some winnable games later this month. I do see some size and athleticism on this team and the potential is there to put up a fight against other 9th region opponents.

17. Bellevue (1-1): Jim Hicks’ team have chance to get some wins before Christmas. I am curious to see how they do against St. Henry and Villa this month.

18. Dayton (1-1):The Devils split the first two games of the season and have scored over fifty points both times.

19. Heritage Academy (0-1): Heritage put up 78 points against Walden.

20. Covington Latin (0-2) Latin gave up 76 and 72 points against very small schools this week. They play Walden on Saturday.
