What is the Colonels record this year? I have not been following too closely, but these seems like the it is at least the second 'surprise' loss for them already in this short season. Is the talent level down that much in baseball this year for them, or is coach trying to figure out some things?

IMO, while this team doesn't have two D1 players and three D3 college baseball players on it like last years team, this team has some rather good talent playing on it. However in saying that, you must understand they are other than Siemer and Martin rather new to Varsity baseball.

Lets go around the infield then the outfield.

Catcher: From a young man who was drafted in the MLB draft, to a young man that quite frankly is totally raw behind the plate. Huge, huge difference but he will do a good job as he gets comfortable.

1st Base: From a young man who received a full D1 scholarship, to not really a certain player yet. Krumps has played a Senior, Sophomore, and a Junior but none of young men really has any varsity playing time!

2nd Base: Logan Siemer, one of the best in the Ninth Region.

SS: From a three year starter, to a sophomore who is playing well, but who doesn't again have any varsity playing time. Give him time, he will be a good one in the field.

3rd Base: Matt Klein. Didn't play but maybe an inning last year due to sickness but Mattie can play any position, for any team and start, he is that good. I look for big things from Mattie.

Out Field: Other than Martin no one really returned from last year squad with a lot of playing time! You are starting a young 10th grader in Right but he has been playing great.

Pitching: Other than one outing, the pitching staff has done a good job. No there isn't an Isler on the mound for CovCath this season but Gerwe is doing a very good job as being the #1. Warning pitched one heck of a game vs Conner the other day and Schlagbaum and Shumate will when given the chance do well.

They are indeed better (IMHO), then they are playing at the moment. Be patient CovCath fans, these young men just need some time, as they are raw but talented!

CovCath as of now is 2-3!

^ Great info TOG - Thanks! Yes I certainly understand that a lot of talent graduated last year, as I said I had just read comments on a couple of games where it seemed like a genuine surprise that our boys lost. I am also real surprised to read on here about guys making the mental mistakes, or not understanding the game. Even though they do not have a lot of varsity experience I would have thought they have played enough ball by now that they would not be having the 'growing pains' you have described here. I am sure that Krumps will have them playing at the level they are capable of by the end of the year!

Zach Bezold's Dad told me today that the pitcher for Scott "Adkins" I think did not pitch until this year and he's a senior.

If it is Joe Adkins, he was mainly used either at 1b or as a DH the last couple years. I believe he has been in the lineup for his bat since he was a sophomore.

He is a great kid, who had his Football career end early due to a severe head injury suffered while boating years ago.

His older brother was an excellent athlete for Scott. Playing Baseball, Basketball and Football (I believe). Joe "Big House" Adkins is one of those kids you root for even if he is playing on the opposition.

While I have no doubt Coach Krumps will have them playing at their peak by the time the districts roll around, do you think he can right the ship in time to preserve his 20 win season streak?

My same question. He's at 23 or 24 seasons in a row I believe.

Is this the first time Scott has ever beat Cov Cath in Baseball and Basketball in the same year?
