The weather wouldn't cooperate with Ohio Co's impressive outing against Top 20 Hopkinsville on Tuesday night at Bill Leach Field in Hartford. Up 2-0 going into the home half of the 4th, the weatherman struck again to erase the game.
Nonetheless, it was an impressive outing by the 3rd Region Eagles who have struggled as of late. Blaine Gillim, hard-throwing freshman lefty, manhandled the Hopkinsville lineup with a no-hit performance on the mound. Gillim was masterful in mixing speeds, and the kid has some nasty fastball movement.
It was a homecoming of sorts for assistant coach, Blake Leach, who played at Ohio Co and Brescia University. Blake'sfather, Steve Leach, and his grandfather, legendary coach Bill Leach paved the way for the Eagle program for many years. Hopkinsville has one of the best around in Coach Leach, and I look for them to certainly make a regional run this year.
All in all, it was a good night for both.teams as they prepare for the last leg of the season. Mother Nature will hopefully give all these hardworking teams a break soon.
