Learning Respect For The Second Amendment, The Hard Way
OCALA - The Internet cafe patron who shot and injured two men as they tried to rob the business will likely not face any criminal charges.
“Based on what I have seen and what I know at this time, I don't anticipate filing any charges,” said Bill Gladson of the State Attorney's Office for 5th Judicial Circuit.
Gladson said he has reviewed the security surveillance video from the cafe. While he still awaits final reports from the Marion County Sheriff's Office, he said the shooting appeared justified.
Samuel Williams, 71, who fired the shots, has a concealed weapons permit, according to the Sheriff's Office. Under Florida law, a person is allowed to use deadly force if he or she fears death or serious injury to themselves or others. As long as the person isn't committing a crime and is in a place where he or she has a right to be, they are considered to be acting within the law.

Glad there will be no charges, the shots he appeared to take as the person ran out the door might have led him into some trouble if they had decided to charge him.
Good for him.

I give Grandpa credit, he kept after them, good for him. He seemed to make sure that he was careful with his shots and not just going all gun hoe after the criminals. How about they guy that is running beside grandpa like he is his side kick, lol.

What's also cool is that a 71 year old guy was hanging out in an Internet Cafe. That and shooting bad guys will keep him young.

This was a very serious incident but I couldn't help but laugh. I felt as though Mr. Williams was excited that he finally got to shoot at someone. I'm a gun advocate so don't take this the wrong way, just his body language, you could tell he was looking out for others but it just seemed like he was excited/glad he finally got to shoot someone. Glad everyone(not including the robbers) ended up ok.

With neither perp seemingly suffering life threatening injuries, I feel like it's more than fine to laugh at these two idiots getting what's coming to them from this old man.

Combination internet cafe and shooting range franchises that cater to senior citizens.....
I see a new marketplace that needs some good entrepreneurs.

I have no issue with what he did but isn't it problematic from a legal sense that he continues to fire rounds as they are running out of the store? The one guy had fallen and was laying in a prone position and he squeezed off another round. Just curious.

Had one of these guys have died after being shot "in" the cafe'...how big of an issue would it be to you? What if it was the guy with the bat, not the guy with the gun, that died...would that be an issue?

I can see where people are applauding what he did, but I agree with the posters who feel that there very well could have been another ending.
We all know how I feel about guns. This doesn't change things for me.

They had already used the bat on a PC. Making it clear that they would use on people. One swing - a person can be killed. They had deadly force in their hands and showed a willingness to exercise it. So who cares if it was 'just a bat'. But it was not it was gun. That was being pointed at the man when he fired the first shot.
What happens if/when they find the gun on him before he uses it? Do you think they will ask him to surrender it in a polite manner? Or do they server up a home run on the man's temple or just shot him dead. He was forced to act before they realized he was armed.
Lots of what ifs. But, interestingly, this was a text book CCW incident. The man was controlled and shot as needed to eliminate the threat. Once they were out the door and no longer a threat inside he disengaged.
If the guy 'rolls over' inside and still his holding his weapon - he gets at least 2 more. Keep shooting until he is not holding the weapon or not moving.
