Default Knee Jerk Reactions and Politicization of Tragedies Involving Guns

Sadly, every time some crazy, irrational person goes off the deep end and inflicts senseless carnage on innocent victims as in the Aurora Shootings, people, organizations, the media and politicians all too often start playing the blame game. There's never any shortage of knee jerk reactions, exploitation or politicization of these crimes. Examples (and these are only about the recent shootings in Aurora):

Mass shooting prompts Bloomberg to call on Obama, Romney to address gun control

Left blames Aurora shooting on Rush Limbaugh

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence immediately changed the front page of its website subheading to "This is yet another horrific reminder that guns enable mass killings."

Louie Gohmert: Aurora Shootings Result Of 'Ongoing Attacks On Judeo-Christian Beliefs'

OUR CULTURE OF DEATH AND THE BATMAN SHOOTING
Exclusive: Matt Barber unapologetically compares theater massacre to abortion

    On Twitter, CNN’s Piers Morgan:

Horrendous details from this Colorado cinema shooting. America has got to do something about its gun laws. Now is the time.

More Americans will buy guns after this, to defend themselves, and so the dangerous spiral descends. When/how does it stop?

Lunatics like this will always try and get guns. It should be 100,000 times harder than it is for them to do so. That’s my point. #Colorado

    Actor John Leguizamo tweeted:

My heart goes 2 all the victims families in colorado. No one should have to go thru that. When r we gonna get guns removed in this country?!

The New Yorker’s Philip Gourevitch on Twitter:

Unless politicians push aggressive relentless gun control they’re accepting these shootings & complicit in the slaughter.

ABC'S Ross, Stenphanopoulos Point To Tea Party In Dark Knight Shooting - ABC has since apologized.

These are but a few examples, there are plenty more out there. It's senseless and puts the blame everywhere but where it belongs. Shameful.

I used "spoon" rather than "fork" with someone when I was discussing the same topic yesterday. I also said that we might want to ban sex, too, because that leads to abortions.

Talk about the need for a 'cooling off period'.

A couple or so days of just remembering the victims would be good. Then the talking heads can have it afterwards.

Shut down all movies, places where people go, only allow Internet orders, no more black clothing, no more cars. This should also stop most deaths.

Agree. The analysis and politicization should wait at least until the poor victims are buried, for pete's sake.

It's the liberals not waiting, they try to pounce on everything they feel is for them and try to lay blame on everyone but themselves. Maybe if the economy was in good shape and not being ran into crap by the most liberal president of all time this may not have happened, maybe the guy would have had a job and no time to think about that stupid stuff.

Anyone who thinks a ban on guns will stop situations like this is living a lie.

You're just as guilty as politicizing this incident as the 'liberal media' with your post.

You can't, not anymore than you can keep a guy from legally buying a car and mowing over as many people in a crowd as possible. The laws are already in place, when people don't follow them, all you can do is be vigilant and hope for the best. CC can be helpful in stopping some attacks, such as in this case.

Only way is to make every single weapon illegal and unable to get except by military. If caught with a weapon you automatically get death, no questions asked.
Police then only need tazers to subdue criminals.

This has happened in a few movies and hopefully remains in movies.

I agree RTS. Stupid comments by people with an agenda in the midst of tragedy.

I also hate the ones who invariably begin to pontificate: "If we hadn't taken God out of our culture then this wouldn't have happened." Seen too many of these politicians and people state this as well.

The lowest of the low are people who use a tragedy like this to push their interpretation and agenda into the light.

Here's a perfect example of the ridiculousness. I saw this on Facebook:

Really? By this stupid "logic", how many people did cars "murder" then? How about bicycles? Knives? Alcohol? As cammando said, should we ban diesel fuel and fertilizer too? As cammando and TB&G pointed out, what about forks and spoons? By this guy's logic, that's why people are fat. Hey, I know, let's ban doctors, they've certainly killed plenty of people by misdiagnosing patients. Right? He claims, "Yes I know. People kill people". Yet he blames the gun. Dr. Gary Cohan is a moron.

The truth is, bad and evil people kill. The method just changes over the centuries.

What I find amusing by this is how many were killed in all of those countries by knives or any other means. How many murders altogether? Also, how many of these 9484 murders in the US were commited by legal guns?
