Some school districts do not even have an athletic budget, so there is nothing to cut. Football and boys basketball fund all the other athletic teams.

The $72,000,000 2 year cut proposed, if divided evenly over 173 districts would result in cuts of under $210,000 per year on average. While that is a lot of money, it's hard to imagine that the average system can't find that much without impacting class rooms.

Lower fuel prices, over the past year alone, have saved schools much more than that this year as compared to the past several years.

Maybe some, but not substantially across the state.

It would save money on trophies

You cant do the math that way though. Bigger districts have to be taking more of the hit on this.

Sure and smaller districts with less money will take a smaller hit. You can do the math that way to get rough numbers...which is what I was doing. Just wanted to give a number that was easier to understand on at and average district level.

Volleyball and soccer dont have to play 30 games. Limit games to about 20 and it saves a ton of gas and referee fees.
Cut basketball, baseball and softball to 25 games and it saves a ton of money too.

My guess the plan works ( or at least helps ) and very little effect is seen on HS athletics . I thought this thread was going to contain some revelation that actually mattered .

Woo hoo! We have a winner.

Maybe we can get the ball rolling and eventually rescind the right to vote for a certain population!

While my post was pretty tongue-in-cheek, there is a pretty clear difference between not offering a sport because you cant afford it, and refusing the right to vote for a certain population. Seems like you made a pretty large jump in an effort to utilize a "shock factor."
