Default Dalai Lama finds leading Tibet harder than being peace icon

BEIJING — This is not an easy time for the Dalai Lama, who seems to find it easier to trot the globe as a holy man promoting peace than to serve as a political leader of his Tibetan people.

Twice in a little more than a week, the Dalai Lama has suggested that he might resign if Tibetans don't stop using violence to press for greater freedom under Chinese rule.

It's an unusual warning for a religious leader who ranks in many parts of the world up there with Nelson Mandela as a universal moral figure and international emissary of peace and harmony.

IMO, it would be a bad decision for the Dalai Lama to resign. It would be meaningless. He needs to take an active role and the Ghandi approach to this problem. Even if it makes him a martyr.

The article says that this is probably a tactical move, and that he really is not considering quitting.

The Dalai Lama is a great Man, and whatever he decides will be for the good of His people and Religion.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but what exactly makes him a great man? I've never heard.

Even in Exile the Dalai Lama has been an advocate for his people. He still maintains a compassion for the Chinese, even after what they have done to him and his people. He has been an advocate for non violent resistance and a sense of world community.

The American media hasn't found out anything bad about him.

Just kidding, he does seem to be a good man.

Yeah, I'm okay with "good man". I'm still not so sure about "great man".
