Annual Gun Deaths vs. Abortion Deaths in U.S.

    FIREARMS TUTORIAL

    Education > Abortion > Abortion Statistics - 07/26/2012 | ALL.org

Annual deaths in the U.S. by:

    Guns - 31,000+ (19K suicide, 12K homicide or accident)

    Abortion - 1,200,000+

Total number of abortions in the U.S. 1973-2011: 54.5 million+

234 abortions per 1,000 live births (according to the Centers for Disease Control)
    Abortions per year: 1.2 million
    Abortions per day: 3,288
    Abortions per hour: 137
    9 abortions every 4 minutes
    1 abortion every 26 seconds

These statistics include only surgical and medical abortions. Because many contraceptive measures are abortifacients (drugs that induce or cause abortions), it is important not to overlook the number of children killed by chemical abortions. Since 1965, an average of 11 million women have used abortifacient methods of birth control in the United States at any given time.

We must ban guns for the children!!!!!

Strange to see liberals get up in arms about gun control on one hand, and then they turn around and actively support and condone abortion. In fact, they passionately fight for abortion.

It's not strange. Business as usual.

I just don't see these apples to apples. Two very different challenges to be overcome in very, VERY different ways.

Of course it's not apples to apples. 1.2 million vs 12 thousand is nowhere near the same. Wonder where Mr. Obama's "if it only saves one life" goal is here?

You are right on the mark on this one CBDV. Abortion will go down as the most heinous sin in our country's history. If you can't care about the unborn, who have no voice, please quit telling me how much you care for others with difficult plights.

A+ thread with no answer from the other side. (I always appreciate RockMom joining and respect her opinion on abortion, but believe she is completely wrong on this one issue.) Not a shot RockMom-you and I have shared our opinions on this topic....

Regardless of where you stand on abortion, when you look the issue from the stand point of Freedom of Choice, the hypocrisy by the majority advocating gun control becomes readily apparent to me.

If you don't want abortions, then how do you plan on paying/taking care of all these extra children? Many of which would be born into families that cannot support them. Just something to think about.

Um, don't get pregnant. Or at least as I understand human biology that would be an option. Heck Jack, I suggest that with your logic I'd prefer to kill all of those housed in the prison system. IMAGINE how much money that would save us. Much better option methinks.

I agree with the "don't get pregnant" assessment; but let's be honest, it ain't gonna happen. You are comparing a legal action with one that is illegal. I think if killing people with guns were legal and not punishable by imprisonment then I think you would see an uptick in the number of gun related deaths. I'm by no means advocating one way or the other; but this isn't comparing apples to apples.

No argument I've seen compares apples to apples. Guns vs. bats. Assault weapons vs. handguns. Every argument with the same end. You support abortion because it keeps the population down. For me, I'd rather not kill a fetus. Our nation is headed for destruction no matter how many of you will poo poo this comment with an "overreact much?" refrain. Frankly, I believe that we are a sinful nation that is about to be judged. But that's just me, and I suppose the only thing that is important is that we can keep costs down. Our government chooses to deal with this issue because it's a current event, it's popular, it's politically advantageous. It's the speck in our eye, while abortion is the plank.
