Please do tell what possum and ground hog taste like. And please don't say it tastes "like chicken." Not everything in this world can taste like chicken. I ate squirrel once. I can dang sure tell you that that does not taste like chicken or anything that should be eaten by civilized man.

I wasn't very old at the time. But both very edible. The possum meat was white like chicken. The groundhog was very greasy. Both had unique tastes similar to other small game. Turtle however does taste like chicken.

Squirrel is one the best wild game meats that I have ever eaten. Pan fried wth some fried taters and mrs. Cvilles home made biscuits with squirrel gravy on top is a feast fit for a King.

What part of the possum does the grits come from. Turtle does taste like a chicken you droped in the mud.

I don't know how it was prepared or where you ate squirrel but someone must have done something wrong. Squirrel is delicious, can be prepared fried like cvillecat mention earlier and I always liked them fixed in with dumplings. Squirrel and squirrel dumplings...........ummm um, that's some good eating.
Squirrel brains are also very good.

It was many years ago that I ate the squirrel admittedly, but I still remember it distinctly. Very gamey and chewy, so it apparently wasn't prepared as wonderfully as you all have mentioned. I swear if I'd have just bitten into the thing while it was still alive it couldn't have tasted much different. Maybe I'll give it another shot again someday.
