Ok. What reason would it be acceptable for the officer to shoot the suspect in the back while he was running away?

The jurors will decide if it was acceptable. Just pointing out this guy that got shot in the back had attacked the officer at least once and without reading this old thread again had took off one other time?
Kids listen to the cops when they tell you do do something. Don't run away, don't attack them and run away again and think there will not be consequences which may include you eating lead.

I think there is more to the story than the footage that was released to us.

Wasn't it the police officer who said he struggled with the man? He lied about the facts of the shooting so unless there are witnesses, I don't believe him about a struggle. As pro-cop as I am, I can still admit when I see a bad one. This one is a turd.

    One juror held out.

    This will be re-tried.

I read that a recent note to the judge said the majority of jurors couldn't decide.

"Things changed drastically over the weekend break. On Monday, jurors sent a note to the judge indicating that "the majority" were still undecided on a verdict. They also posed numerous questions to the judge. They asked for clarification on why voluntary manslaughter was added as a possible verdict and whether the definition of self-defense for a police is different than for the average person."

He is still scheduled to go on trial early next year on federal charges, including civil rights offenses, related to the shooting. This almost sounds like double jeopardy if he was found innocent.

Well this won't help the law enforcement profession.

The only reason I know of is if it would be reasonable to believe the suspect poses a significant risk to the public if he were to escape. I believe this requires the suspect to have a history of violence.

I'm with you there. As much as I support the police, I can't believe this one. Of course, I didn't sit through the trial and here all the testimony, but I believe his defense was almost exclusively self defense. He shot him from 18 feet apart running away.

One can support police and still see when an officer is clearly wrong. This one looks bad. Admittedly, I wasn't present for the trial, but I'm not sure how this one ended this way.

Similar to the case in Cincy, I highly doubt you find 12 that will convict him.
