Shooting at 2 New Zealand Mosques kills 49

    Just a horrible, awful story.

The fact that one of the gunman streamed a live video of the atrocity is appalling & purely evil.

Praying for the families of those influenced by this.

The fact that one of them live streamed his part in it makes it even more bone-chilling. It's reminiscent of the guy who posted the video of himself shooting the live reporter/camera man to social media here in the US a while back.

What sucks about this all is that so many of these killers seem to take inspiration from other killings - which we inevitably learn WAY too many fine details about in the subsequent news coverage - and then oftentimes they almost seem to try to find a way to intentionally one-up the previous murderers who they've been inspired by.

The disregard so many people have for life is completely depressing to me.

If it's happening in pristine New Zealand, then the whole world is in trouble.

Someone sent me a link to the video of this earlier and I reluctantly watched it. I'm not a morbid person at all but still felt like I should view it while it was available. That said it's one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen.

A few things stuck out to me though, the obvious was that he wanted people to see the video and he knew that they would, due to the platform he used to broadcast it.

The second was that he was in no rush to leave, even when there wasn't really anyone left alive, he still went back to his car to get more magazines and went back inside the Mosque, almost like he was waiting on the police to get there. Not because I believe he wanted a shootout with them, but because I feel like he wanted arrested. Draw it out and go to trial to tell his story.

The third is that even though there were several people arrested, he seemed to act alone in the shooting that killed 41 people. So I'm not sure what the other people's role was unless they were at the second Mosque.

This person is pure evil, but beyond that it appears that he wants people to see what he did as well as go to trial for it so that it's all documented. Likely because he wants to influence people that have the same beliefs as him.

No death penalty in New Zealand, unfortunately.

Neither does Australia, which is where the shooter is from. None of this makes sense to me and likely never will. One thing I have learned is that it just goes to show that this type of thing can happen anywhere. There is a little more to it than that as well but I'd be close to violating terms even if I worded it carefully, so I'll leave that alone.

Evil is evil, anything else is just window dressing. People like this can't be understood by reasonable people.

I just cannot understand how anyone can kill someone they don't know at all. While certainly not acceptable, I can at least somewhat understand how someone can be so mad at someone they know to kill them (eg: boss at work, former lover, etc)...but to just kill people you have never met before and know nothing about...I will just never understand that...truly evil...

So true! Hope something very bad happens to him in prison. Hope it is slow, painful, and goes on for many years.
