I don't own a pit and never have, but the people that I do know that own them love them just as much as I love my golden/sheltie mix. They are funny, loving and playful.

There are 4 million pit bulls in the U.S. With only 43 death last year from dogs, that's a whole bunch of pit bulls NOT killing people.

That is great. IF your 2 pit bulls went after a child, or an elderly person or another dog, would you be able to stop them? Pull them off the person/animal that they are attacking?

Yes, I would be able to stop them and pull them off if needed.

Only 43 deaths. Only? That's a lot of deaths

Of course, I'd rather the number to be zero. I'd also like the number of children killed by accidental shootings to be zero. That number is more than 43 per year. So is the number killed in hot car deaths, accidental drownings and accidental strangulation. Don't you agree?

Statistically speaking, even if all 43 deaths were from pit bulls (they weren't), out of 4 million pit bulls in the country, that's less than one one thousandTH of one percent. That's one out of every 100,000 pit bulls. I don't think that the problem is the breed itself.

There were 4 shark attack deaths worldwide in 2016. Yet, people are scared to death when they see a fin. Perhaps that's how people should react when a pit bull walks by.

If that's how you want to react, then go for it. I'm not about telling people that they should be scared of a certain breed of dog or that they shouldn't have the ability to own one...or that they shouldn't quiver in fear of them if they want to. To each their own.

I wish that each and every dog had responsible owners, ones that were educated on their dog's breed(s) and took every care to keep their dog safe and people safe from their dog. Then, the stats would be zero and we'd have to find something else about which to argue.

I'm not trying to tell anyone else how to feel either. I'm saying I'm scared of them. I don't my kids anywhere around a pit bull.
