I remember my doctor smoking in his office while I was there as a kid.

Just get a job where you work from home like I do. You can get paid to do all sorts of things.

Can you come over to my house today? I need to split some fire wood. I plan on starting right after my 11:30-1:00 conference call.

Are smokers a protected class? If so, they may want to get getslow at our work to bring down the smoker insurance health insurance rates.

Depends on how far you have to walk to take a smoke break. At our work, you are not allowed to smoke on the grounds and the parking garage is a good 7 minute walk from the main building.

I don't think federally they are but some states do have them as a protected class including KY. Guess I'll be incorporating my business in Ohio!

Interesting...but no protection on discrimatory pricing of health insurance. I guess you could price smokers out of your company by making insurance unaffordable for them.

I work for Huntington Bank downtown Cincy. Huntington will not hire a smoker now. Now some current employees who are smokers may be grandfathered in but they have a strict non-tobacco policy as far as new hires. No smoking at any of their offices either...so no smoke breaks. I ABHOR cigarette smoke so I love it.

I am all for it too! No smoking on the premises hasn’t stopped our smokers from finding places to sneak off to though. Where there is a will, there’s a way.

Well that's just flat out discrimination.

Seriously though just because someone smokes doesn't make them a bad worker. Smoking is just some peoples way to maintain calm or a stress reliever. Ppl could be doing a lot worse. Id love to see the day I can have a beer or bourbon break at the office but while moral may increase I'd say productivity would diminish dramaticly

    I don't smoke, but here's my 2 cents.

The person who walks outside and smokes alone usually isn't an issue at my workplace, as they take very little time. The time killer are the 3-4 who can't smoke alone, and then end up huddled in a group gossiping and taking 10-15 minutes at a time.

We do a have a running joke that my boss gets an extra week of vacation by only crapping at work.
