Figured you wouldn't. However, your previous post said something about ONLY celebrating holidays/traditions that we have been celebrating for generations.
MLK is a relatively new holiday. It shows that we adapt.
The country is changing , which I know makes a lot of folks uncomfortable, and that means how and what we celebrate will change (see MLK Day).
So we either allow students to celebrate THEIR traditions in a PUBLIC school or we just say "folks, we're here to educate - not celebrate holidays."

Should schools stop pep rallies, every kid doesn't participate in sports, band or cheerleading. Many kids never have school spirit and could not care less if the "The Team" wins or loses this weeks game.
Should sports be stopped at schools, we all know that many athletes get special treatment from teachers and staff and get favored in class room situations. How about the poor kid that just rides the bus to school, does their work and get's ignored because they don't partake in any extra curricular activities...maybe we should disband the football, basketball and softball team because it makes these kids feel left out not being a part of it.
Maybe the answer is to have school Monday to Friday week in and week out without breaks for anything. No Fall Break, Christmas Break and Spring Break, either because they make kids from poor families feel bad because they aren't going away on vacation. Also those extra 4 weeks out of school is an extra hardship on many parents due to having to find childcare for those 4 weeks each year.

Minnesota is an interesting state. Upper Midwest with many traditional values and a conservative culture, but an incredibly liberal state.

Wouldn't the examples I gave fit "Distractions" you mentioned in the the first quote here from you.
The reason for wanting to end these celebrations is because it may leave "Some Students" out...sports leave out more students from school activities than the number upset over Valentines Day.
