    Male (Prop 20)

If Male gets kids from all around, why don't they kick Male out? What about other schools? Was this brought up?

    Sad. Sad. Sad.

Let's make a trophy for everyone. Loved the quote from Senator Tim Shaughnessy. "If the superintendants... would bring the same commitment to education...Kentucky wouldn't be 50th in just about everything."

    WOW!!!!!!!

I actually agree with this, I wasn't for the split, but I wondered why Male and Manual weren't grouped with the private schools. They are just state funded private schools, like the old joke says; St. Male and St. Manual.

Its not just Male and Manual. All open enrollment scools play by different rules than the schools out in the state. Male and Manual just do a better job of it. I was amazed (not really) to hear Mario Urrutia admit live on the radio that he was "recruited" to Fern Creek for basketball. Also add in the independent schools. If they want to be viewed as independent, why don't they compete with just the students within their area?

I heard Mario say that too, it was on the Bobby Petrino show. I almost spit my coffee out when I heard him say it on the air. Someone needs to get that tape and send it to the Board of Control. Not to mention the Courier-Journal and Herald Leader.

There is nothing new in any of this. When talking about Brian Brohm, Redman said that "I tried to get him at Male, but Oscar (his father) was an assistant coach at Trinity and I couldn't offer him that". When talking about the linebacker from x that went to Tennessee (Bernard Jackson?) Redman said on the radio that "I know how good he is, I tried to get him at Male".

All I can say, is that the Public Schools are making the private schools more elite and tuly hurting themselves. Because X and Trinity are going to remain power houses. Poor Male they just don't want to compete anymore.

    WOW!!!!!!!

Just about every public high school in Jefferson County can "get kids from all around" (i.e. they have open enrollment and can draw from the entire county). This is not just a Male or Manual issue.

That's the way it was before 1975. The 3A state title (there were just 3 classes then) was essentially a Jefferson County championship. In fact, in the 1960's, the 3A state title consisted of the Louisville City champion vs the Jefferson County champion (a 2 team, one game "playoff")

No H, Males and Manuals rules are different then most other public schools in JC. If Male and Manual had to go by the same rules as the rest Male would be required to educate the city of Lynnview. Except they don't and those kids are shipped away from a school within walking distance to Seneca or Southern.

Manual would have kids from Downtown and Germantown. Would those two school still be on top in test scores then??????????????????????????

Louisville has open enrollment which is unfair to many outside of Louisville but Male and Manual don't even have to educate anyone. They can pick and choose and when a kid doesn't work out they can get rid of them.

So yes, Male and Manual are very similar to the privates.

Why are they not on the chopping block? I mean lets make sure everyone gets a trophy.

I'm not about everyone getting a trophy but I am about schools having a realistic oppurtunity every once in awhile. Some schools have no chances and some schools are setup so they have a chance every single year.

Germantown, maybe... but downtown would belong to Central and the Brown school. Don't forget about Iroquois, Atherton, Butler, MALE and Shawnee. We're surrounded on a lot of sides by CLOSE SCHOOLS. Manual would have a very, very small resides district.

Not having to educate anyone is news to me...

You would have Old Louisville sewn up, though.
