No, you're cherry picking bible quotes (odd from an atheist) and trying to make it fit your agenda. It isn't working.

Not that odd at all. Atheists tend to be very knowledgeable about what is actually in the bible. Much more so than christians.

I don't give a rat's rear end whether you or any of your Conservative Club for Men cohorts take me seriously. Ha ha ha.

One thing I do know is that Jesus had little use for the capitalists of his time. He went after the usury specialists in the temple like Burfict went after Big Ben.

If that makes you feel better about yourself, you go ahead and cling to that. God knows you need it.

Again, who can take you seriously?

Jesus had little use for another human being? You need to brush up on the bible. Jesus loves everyone, forgives everyone. All can enter Heaven though Christ.

"And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. And he told those who sold the pigeons, "Take these things away; do not make my Father's house a house of trade." -- John 2:13–16

So much for one free-market economy in the heart of Jerusalem.

If you're correct, then what's this verse about?

"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” --Matthew 19:24

twotoplace money is the root of all evil. Jesus is saying that pretty much here. He did not say a rich person could not go to Heaven, just it would be hard. But he also said that "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Now what path are you on? What about you Mayfieldfan? What path are you on being we are talking about what Jesus said?

Where do you stand? Hmmm.......Dont you guys just love talking about Jesus!

Where did I say Jesus was a capitalist? I said he wasn't a socialist or a communist.

    Maybe you forgot about:

John 3:36 - Anyone who believes in the Son has eternal life, but anyone who refuses to believe in the Son will never see life: God's retribution hangs over him.

John 14:6 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The bolded shows how you are incapable of reading the bible. He did not say it would be "hard." He said a camel could pass thru the eye of a needle easier. Can a camel pass thru the eye of a needle? Nope. A camel can not do that. So it's more than hard, it is impossible.

As to what path I am on, well, I don't believe and I think we should try to make the world we live in a better place. Far too often there is a block of evangelical christians in this country who have aligned themselves with the republicans and take positions on policy that i disagree with. If it helps to point out that these positions are contrary to what's in the book that this block of people supposedly believe in, all the better.

You better hope I am right, that there is no god. If there is, he can just look at me and say "you didn't believe, off to hell" You guys believe, supposedly. But you don't follow it. You don't live according to the bible, the bible lives according to you. You don't believe what the bible says, the bible says what you believe.

And yet even with this rampant, open, and obvious complete disregard of the bible by christians, we are supposed to all let you guys force your individual religious beliefs upon the rest of us, and our children. Slapping up the ten commandments everywhere. Prayers in schools, and at football games. Allowing government officials to refuse to do their jobs. Denying people basic human rights, such as the right to marry. All in the name of individual beliefs and prejudices, which are attributed to some god in order to justify their imposition on the rest of us.

Save the junior high explainer for your next men's Bible study group. The quest to better understand the historical Jesus doesn't automatically have to be viewed by the faithful as an attack on their faith system, but sadly that's usually the outcome.

My takeaway from this discussion is that the Jesus described in the New Testament was apolitical, was a communalist, castigated the rich and embraced the poor. I suspect that if Jesus was with us in person today, he probably wouldn't even be registered to vote and most certainly wouldn't be asked to ring the opening bell on the New York Stock Exchange.
