Iowa teens blasted for patriotic attire at BB Game

As far as I think this isn't a political thing but controversy concerning kids being patriotic in their own country.

I thought the whole goal of refugees was to be melted into American society and be proud to be here. If the flag or colors offend the refugees then why are they here and why do we want people who do t like our country.

Please don't bring up Trump or anything political about the ban or political stuff.
Just comment on if you feel the kids were treated fair or unjust.

Assuming these students did not wear patriotic outfits for any other game they should be criticized for this one.

Student section trying to upset an opponent...crazy just crazy.

Students sections have always looked for any reason to pick at the players on another team, by contrast this is VERY tame to what we have all seen.

Some Student Sections "Theme" each game, this possibly could have been patriotic game for them, we don't know. During a heated election here a few years ago the Sheriff was an Assistant coach for a local high school basketball team, the opposing students brought campaign signs of his opponent and chanted his opponents name the entire game. It upset his supporters, but no one called for an apology.

That said, there are some lines that should not and can not be crossed.

Scream, jump up and down, yell "MISS" to impact the game. That's not what was happening here. This was one school trying to make a statement about the other. Big difference IMO. It's like when CCH used to allow their student body to wear business suits when they played Holmes. Had nothing to do with the game itself. Neither did this.

What was offensive with Business suits?

Schools always try to make a statement, nothing new...just some don't like this statement, right or wrong.

Are you familiar with Holmes in regards to socioeconomics and racial make up?

Are the kids that are refugees not now Americans? Are they here legally?

A quick Google search found that most students sections that pre plan themes for games through the season have one game designated Patriotic in the schedule. Some have Camo Day, Hawaiian Day, White Out, Black Out, Pink Out, Toga, Formal, Christmas and I saw one that had Breakfast themed. I'll guarantee in this day someone could find a reason to be offended at any of those.

Cool. Holmes is about 40% black. About 60% qualify for reduced lunch.

So the business suits had a message behind them.

That's just it. The message is "we're Americans and you're not." Why else would they pick THIS school for the theme?

Is that to explain why business suits are offensive? Are some saying most Holmes kids don't have the capacity to be business leaders?

Just read that they do this for a game every year and did it in the fall for a football game, it is a regular theme night for them.
