Just out of curiosity...and I'm totally spit balling here...is he dating one of the cheerleaders by chance?

I was wondering the same thing and/or has he dated any of the cheerleaders in the past.

Then you may have an adult that is an authority figure by Kentucky Revised Statues protecting his probable minor high school girlfriend on the sidelines which in some cases could be a criminal offense if everything stacks up correctly.

Paintsville needs to get their act together.

By all accounts, this was a recent graduate, not a parent right? To me this incident screams “I’m hanging on the sideline cause I can’t move past high school.”

So basically he’s just down there reliving glory days and lurking around the cheerleaders.

Haha! Fair point! I do not know this guy so I can’t speak to his motives. I will say that he did graduate last year so it’s not a “Dazed and Confused“ age gap.

I will say that when reading the comments on social media, I was surprised at the amount of people (from all over, not just Paintsville) that we’re defending him. I would say it was 2 out of 3 comments. Very surprised by that. I do feel that whoever posted the video online may have had a slight biased (or wanted click bait) because they did cut the film short and did not show the guy walking over and attempting to help Ponder off the ground. Please don’t take this as me defending him. I’m not, just trying to report all the facts.

I’m also not saying that’s what the poster did on here who added the video, they just simply posted what was online.

This slightly different video appears to show that the individual on the sideline goes to try and help Paintsville defensive back #15 Justin Ramey off the ground rather than the Williamsburg quarterback #10 Dalton Ponder. Or at very least, his initial concern is certainly taking care of helping the Paintsville player to his feet rather than the Williamsburg player that he just took a cheap shot at.

Also, I'm not sure whether or not it's been commented on in this thread, but this particular video also seems to throw a bit of a wrench in the "protecting the cheerleaders" narrative, since if you watch the lower left of the video, you'll see a Paintsville defender go tumbling out of bounds at the 36 yard line and ACTUALLY roll into the cheerleaders. The Paintsville player is completely disregarded than the guy who's there "protecting the cheerleaders" because he's too locked in on taking a shot on the Williamsburg quarterback at the time.

Yeah. This doesn’t help him at all. He doesn’t help the guy up. He goes over to the player from his own team.

Thank you for sharing. Again, I am not defending any of these actions. All I can do is hope something like this never happens again.

I know you aren't, ToP. You're doing a good job of being a standup person, as far as I'm concerned.

    I'll second that.

I think the consensus here is that it was a terrible action and look. Not one that can be defended. However, on social media, the defense is loud and numerous. Just find fascinating how several people can watch the same video and draw totally different conclusions.

Are you able to confirm if this is a response from him? It’s only alleged as a possible response and is not verified from social media post.

I am sorry it looked this way but to the Paintsville Cheerleaders I will no longer “protect” you from getting hit. Was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. To the Williamsburg player that is, you know I didn’t hit you hard so don’t act all innocent.

Confirmed. In the newspaper article they quoted him as saying (paraphrasing here) “there were 3 or 4 girls behind me and also 3 big kerosene heaters that were on and several steel poles for tents... say what you want but I wasn’t trying to hurt a kid...”

ToP, you're doing a good job at being fair here, for sure. I'd hate for this to tarnish the Paintsville name in any way, as Kash Daniels is one of my all time favorite Wildcats and Tyler Childers is a fav too.

While generally true, there are a few instances where the state will pursue charges even if the victim does not wish to do so. Particularly situations involving children or domestic violence.

Imo, KSP should review any and all video of this as well as interview the victim and possible suspect. If they determine it was even remotely criminal they should hand it over to prosecution to review.
