Agree. It's way too common these days that schools will put men and women in their 20's in coaching positions and they end up being friends instead of keeping that healthy distance. End result - inappropriate relationships and alcohol/drug situations.

This Dixie cheer group has been a dynasty in their years together. They won competition after competition during their NKYFL days and now are doing the same in their high school years. It's a special group of kids with some parents that have been involved together in this for many years. At this point, they're really the only truly successful branch of DHHS athletics. When you reach the apex of success, sometimes it gets lost that these are kids, that rules still need to be followed, and you aren't untouchable.

I feel bad for all parties involved, but many adults in this situation should have known better.

The coach was present while the students (team members) were consuming alcohol though, correct?

From my understanding that does seem to be the case.

    And so I ask again.

The kids were drinking booze in front of the coach and the kids are not held responsible too-- and they get to go to the Nationals?

    Sure seems that way.

My understanding is that the kids were on non school property, during non school hours, and non school activities when this occurred.

A lot of schools have a code of conduct if you are part of a team. Drinking is usually a no-no even if not school related.

Understood (have no idea if Dixie Cheer has that or not, I know as a coach at another school, we were not allowed to have one, each school is different), alos, just wanted to make it clear that, from what I have been told, the only thing school related to this is:

    A. some of the parties involved were also on Dixie cheerteam

    B. one of the adults involved was a Dixie cheer coach.

I talked to an “in the know Dixie parent.” Because this thread has been a bit cryptic, I asked her about this. She said she didn’t want to talk about it because there was a lot more to it than she wanted to say. She seemed to support the coach and didn’t want to be part of the gossip, which is unusual for her.

So, it is still clear as mud what happened, but based on my friend’s comments, I am going to leave it alone.

    First...go Tigers!

Second...your curiosity has to be piqued now doesn't it? She says she's sworn to secrecy because there's "more to it". Oh, to be a fly on the wall of THAT party.

But, like I said earlier, this is an incredibly tight knight group that has been together for many years. The coach is adored by the girls and families for many reasons..most deserved in fact. No one wants to hurt her any more than this "episode" probably already has.

Still...to be a fly on that wall....

Of course I am curious! Everybody likes a bit of gossip now and then. However I know how damaging local gossip can be.

I have also been that fly on the wall person. Makes me think that what my friend knows, but won’t say is valid. She has no dog in this fight and yet supports this person. Good enough for me.

I'd struggle to support a coach who was knowingly drinking and in all likelihood supplying alcohol to underage members of their team.

I'm also told there was also a to-do about the coach having sexual interaction with a recent male DH grad during one of the parties. The rumor mill alleged that the male was a DH student when in truth he was a recent graduate of DH. Not sure whether or not there is anything on the law books addressing the legality of a coach taking part in a sexual tryst while underage members of the coach's team were within earshot the next room over.
