Calling the Highlands baseball team "Dirty Birds" is a GROSS understatement

Boy, there are some whiney adults here on BGP.

In whiney voice... "Please stop talking about it" "you don't know the facts" "the kid doesn't need any more attention brought to him (presumably because of BGP).

Bullying has gone on since Cain killed Abel. This is the age of social media. If you don't like what is being said, state your opinion and move on instead of getting butt hurt about it, or quit reading this thread. The thread with the poll shows that most people disagree with the punishment given out 45-4. There you go. The social conscience of NKY agrees that this behavior is not acceptable on any level and should be addressed with the same malice that the Dirty Bird 5 displayed.

Facts re the coach telling the kids to delete recordings/videos is just not true. It is sad that fox19 can simply rely on the unsubstantiated hearsay from a parent and publish it as gospel.

It is a sad day indeed when the head coach is being vilified for doing everything by the book. And to make matters worse the national news picked up on the unsubstantiated story and ran with it, naming the coach by name.

IMO the boys who did this being allowed to be a part of any team at HHS again is a slap on the wrist. Terrible

Coach Baioni has ran a respectful program since he took the job. Coach Baioni is not going to lose his job over 5 immature punks. He is what this baseball program needs. In the court of public opinion AKA HATERS HHS is guilty as charged, but guess what, the court of public opinion means nothing. Haters can't compete with the success of Fort Thomas School system. FTIS will not let this incident effect what they do everyday to give each student the opportunity to succeed. It so amazing how people want other people to fail. Grow up and move on with your pathetic life.

I am for the boys to be kicked off the team. I think the punishment doesn't fit the crime. I feel bad for the victim and hope he can recover to play sports next year.

Ok, so after reading posts by people such as Guru, UKmustangFan (I think) and a few others. Is possibly a case of "If we kick these 5 players off the team it will ruin our short at winning the region, and possibly a run at a state baseball title?"

Some may laugh this off, but for many people watching, this is what it looks like it could be. As was mentioned a few times, a "culture". Possibly a culture of protecting athletes and a teams chances to do very well this year? THIS is one reason why many are paying attention to this and one reason why this is now getting national attention.

So it has been said that the coach wanted to punish the players more but was overruled by the AD? Who is the coach here? If this is true, then we will see what the coach is made of when these 5 players return to the team. Will he play them? Will he just bench them for the entire season? If that is true that he wanted to give more of a punishment, this is what he will do. BUT, I will give the coach the benefit of the doubt until these players return.

Many from the very being have said that this isn't a big deal, but even more have said that yes it is a big deal. This is becoming a nightmare and a train wreck, getting worse every day, are the powers to be seeing this? Or are they hiding hoping that it will all just go away? Or do they not care? This will not go away, and what will they do when they start having news crews showing up at games to do reports?

This is a mess. If I had a son who did this stuff, he wouldn't even have a chance to get on Twitter crying about it is unfair that he is being punished. The phone will be the least of his matters. Nor would he have a phone if he got on social media such as some of these others who were not involved. Then to hear there has been more bullying of the victim, blaming him for the situation?

My advice for the coaching staff is to reach out to the victim to make him feel that he is not alone. I am sure coach Baioni tried talking the kid out of quitting along with other coaches.

Not adamant about either side of the coin. I've already stated there are two sides and we (or least I) simply do not know which side of the coin is the right one.

You know ... I am not surprised that you would say that you would tell a team that you were coaching to delete pictures in this type of a situation.

And your line of bull saying that would be to protect the kid is the biggest pile of cow dung I have read in a while. Some times you have to be a man and do what is right ... even if you are concerned about the "humiliated" athlete ... those of us who have actually coached in our lives realize that part of the reason for the humiliation is because no one in a position of authority ever put a stop to what was going on.

Clyde ... your self serving arguments really are pathetic. You are trying to protect your buddies ... and you admit that you are "loyal". As a coach ... I am too ... loyal to the kids that I am responsible for.

You on the other hand ... have a history of supporting arguments ... that benefit you and your buddies ... case in point: http://bluegrasspreps.com/ky-footbal...ml#post4475467

I know ... I know .. what does that thread have to do with this? Easy ... you are blindly loyal and apparently have poor judgement in regard to your fellow man. Not to mention ... it proves that you talk out of both sides of your mouth ... and are willing to accuse people of things that you heard as opposed to actually hearing. You care about your opinion ... and your buddies. Pretty sure that link proves that you really don't care if coaches are accused of things ... you only care if your buddies are accused of things.

You were doing a ton better when you were just keeping your mouth shut.

I will close with this ... I haven't accused any coach of anything ... or done anything more than barely touch on this story ... but ... Bullying is a culture of SILENCE. Reading the twitter crap .... the posts here .. people keep saying that this situation is humiliating to the young man in question. Did it ever occur to some of you that he wants it to go away because there are people on the internet and at school ... saying that this is his fault?

Those of you who are in a hurry to bring this situation to a close because it is "humiliating" the young man need to realize that SILENCE is usually a symptom of being treated like crap by someone who is trying (and has been successful) to assert power over you (usually due to ones own set of insecurities).

If you guys want this to go away ... go speak to the young man and let him know that you support him. And QUIT trying to speak for him and talking about how humiliated you think he is.
First, good to hear from you. Tom and I were just talking about you this week.

Now let's jump in to your post.

I'm not sure how you know what my intent would be if I told a team to delete videos. I guess you can believe what you want.

I re-read the entire thread you referenced. You accuse me of being willing to "accuse people of things" I heard. I'll ask you to show me where that happened. I think twice in there I referenced that there are different stories going around about that supposed incident. Is that your definition of an accusation? I wasn't there to witness anything in that incident so it would be difficult to accuse anyone.

Self-serving posts? You are correct that I am loyal to friends and it's possible I can occasionally be blindly loyal. However, I'd question your definition of "self-serving." How am I doing something that helps me?

Your incorrect assumptions though are relevant. I did go back in my mind the last couple of days to determine at what point reporting what sources say is over the line on a message board. Is saying that I was told a coach interviewed for another job over the line? At first blush, no. But in thinking about it again I could argue maybe it is because of the impact it may have on him personally, his team, or his family. So I think I may have to reconsider what I post from a source.
