He was a banned from carrying a backpack to school while attending... all the signs were there yet the victims today could not be protected or saved? So sad... I don’t even know what to say.

Shooter was arrested 3/4 mile from the school.

There are several more that either died in shootouts with the police or took their own lives...surrendering seems to me more rare that even I thought.

Getting into a school in Philadelphia is as thorough as an airport. You are escorted to the main office from the screening by someone. it is interesting that the vast majority of these shootings are in rural or suburban areas.

What they do in Philadelphia and Cleveland is a strong deterrent. Not saying it could never happen there, I would never say never on these things. However, if it does, I would bet the shooter would be outside not in.
I said this in the Marshall County thread. We have to do more to protect the kids.

    I missed the Maryville shooting.
Those other two were not teenagers.

It’s important to note that this wasn’t a student. This is a person who just walked in the school apparently.

A misleading stat that's out there. It includes someone shooting a school bus with a pellet gun, a random bullet striking a school over the weekend and shootings in a college parking lot and several others that took place on school or college campuses when students were not present. There was one (School Shooting) fatality prior to Marshall County this year it was on the campus of Wake Forest .

There was a 12-year-old girl arrested for shooting two classmates in a targeted shooting, both survived.
Someone in New Orleans shot at a crowd of kids from a pickup but none were injured.

Also Glendale Arizona (2016) a 15 yo girl shot another girl then killed herself.
A 14 yo in Troutdale Oregon (2014) committed suicide after being cornered by police.
An 18 yo in Centennial, Colorado (2013) took his own life after shooting a fellow student.

I'm not seeing many teenagers in the last 5 years or so that actually turned themselves in or were arrested...yes there are some but many seem to take the quick way out.

If you think about it that would be a huge step, it wouldn't stop shootings like Marshall County, but if every classroom door remained locked during class it would severley limit access to students. It wouldn't be a 100% fix but if schools aren't locking their classroom doors during class they are being wreckless with their student's lives.
For 22 consecutive years, my classroom has been closed and locked. Even when administration said to keep it open because it was "uninviting."

This is terrible. It makes me worried for my students.

There are ways to secure the doors that are almost 100% in keeping someone out of the room. Several products on the market, that are quick to deploy and realatively inexpensive.
I would be interested in seeing these products. Where can I find them online?

Research those and you will find they aren't what you think of when you here "Mass Shootings" Events like today come to mind when most people here the phrase "Mass Shooting." In fact for statistacle purposes it includes any event where four or more people are injured. A great deal of the Mass Shootings being referenced were Domestic Family issues that blew up.

While even one innocent person getting killed is horrible, those stats are kinda misleading when we think about what we think of when we hear that term.

I read that the shooter was a former student who had been expelled.
