It's also my intuition that if the media already has access to a deposition from her claim that was based on an event that she had in 2012 means that she hasn't looked to capitalize on an opportunity from the recent events. Not 100% on that, but if so, it's pretty quick turnaround if nothing else.

I'm assuming this is the event that caused the people at an Orioles game at Camden Yards to not be allowed to leave?

Correct. Protests in the streets. Police have told people in Camden to stay inside for a while.

One report says Freddie Gray's voicebox was crushed. That can't happen in the back of a truck due to a "rough ride."

I usually try to give the police the benefit of the doubt but some bad things went down here. Is it a good idea to put one prisoner in a van anyway? Why not in the back of a cruiser with windows and seat belts??

I read somewhere that someone else was in the back of the van but their name was not released because they are a witness. I don't remember where I saw that.

The woman's event on the rough ride was in 2012. Given that the media had already gotten ahold of depositions and the like, I don't think she saw the Gray stuff in the news and decided to cash in on a claim. It's more likely that it was already pending and that the city of Baltimore either was or should have been on notice that this kind of stuff was happening given her claim (and the claim of a guy who went in walking and came out paralyzed that the city had to pay out).

I actually had someone tell me tonight that this is all on the deceased because he would not have ended up in the cruiser if he hadn't ran.

    Stunning.

Coming from someone who worked at the Boone County Jail, all inmates transported to or from the facility are cuffed, shackled, and belly chained and also placed in a seat belt on any transport outside the facility. I would assume it should be that way everywhere, but some places are possibly being lazy.

I think there's quite a few on BGP that probably feel the same way.

That is silly for anyone to say until the reports released. But by no means is the death of someone in custody kosher if it could of been prevented. Period.

If it were a freak accident in pursuit and then tackling him then that would make sense. But so far that doesn't seem to be the case.

That was exactly what I said to this person. Didn't matter. Guy should never have run.

Any updates on the actual investigation into this incident?

I saw where Mr Gray was a Frequent Flyer in the Judicial System but that doesn't excuse intentional infliction of injuries to him if that is what happened.
