When can colleges make personal contact with prospects(phone calls, etc.)? When can they make official offers?

I'm not sure that this is not the right place to ask the question, however you will get much more info at the NCAA website. Also, the NAIA has there own rules on such things as well. As a dad whose been thru it, I can tell you that if your kid is D1 material (scholarship wise that is), they will come to you. That being said, very few are, and you would do better to search out the schools on your own and make contact with the coaches on your own. It's not often that a kid gets a call without somebody first making the initial move on the kids behalf. Also, if your not registered in the NCAA clearing house, don't look to be contacted by a DI DIAA or DII school. You can registered at the NCAA site and you will need to also contact the school guidance couseor in order to get your transcripts sent in. Some schools are familiar with the process, others may not be. Good luck.
BTW- There is a forum on college recruiting on this website, as well as a link to a recruiting service. IMO it is better to do it on your own, but hey, it's your money and time.

If you are interested in an established recruiting service working in Kentucky, check out this website. www.nsr-inc.com We used them for my daughter and were very pleased. They can help coordinate all of the aspects of recruiting, get more exposure for the athlete, and help answer questions just like the one you had above.

D1 colleges can phone rising seniors in the summer (end of June) and call once a week to the prospect. E-mail and text messages are not regulated. A prospect can call the college any time they want. Most D1's have an 800 # directly to their office that they give to prospects for them to call whenever. Home visits are usually set up during a contact period in the fall and the coaches will try to set up an official visit (one paid for by the university) for the recruit to visit campus. DII is virtually the same as DI but most don't recruit until later in the year when they see if recruits sign early with DI's. NAIA basically doesn't have many rules but usually wait to recruit hard like DII to see if player signs with DI.
Most college coaches don't want to hear from mom and dad. They will listen to a lot of high school and AAU coaches who contact them about a player.
Hope this helps and good luck.

No matter what sport your son/daughter plays, you really have to get them recruited yourself. There are lots and lots of schools out there looking for talented players in every sport. It's up to you to let them know that you exsist. You have to contact them. The earlier you start, the earlier they start a file on you. It's also almost never too late. Schools are still giving scholarships up until August. So if your kid is a senior it's not to late. But, you have to get busy right now.
