    Ethics of College Football Recruiting

I really struggle with some of the ethics involved in College Football recruiting. The word "decommit" seems like an oxymoron to me. The definition of character is doing what you say and saying what you do. While I realize that programs do violate verbal commitments, I struggle with the values associated with guiding a kid to verbally commit to an offer, then continuing to explore other options.

    What do you say?

It is a two-headed sword. The coaches tell you that you are the guy, then sign the other guy. I know their job is at stake, but it all feels slimy and unethical. I know a coach who wouldn't coach at that level because of the deceptive stuff that is said to young men.

Really? It's the kids' fault the current system is bereft with corruption and an outrageous amount of slimyness?

Unless you're saying the current system has more ogres on the recruiting side, as in ADs, boosters, shoe companies and other corporate garbage, etc. But that still leaves me wondering where the kid being recruited went wrong in this equation and is worthy of blame. Seems pretty one-sided.

Would an early signing period in football solve some of the ethical problems? The sooner the parties have signed on the dotted lines the sooner both parties can move forward.
