I read that some believe that a reporter broke the story about it coming down just to spark a further outcry and get the process going. I for one hope it does come down this weekend. Penn State needs to get rid of anything from that era.

Im surprised someone hasn't tried to knock it down with their car or truck, a relative, the statue is only a few feet from the street.
Also, what federal laws did Penn St violate? I know there is a federal law saying any place that receive finacial aid must report all crimes on campus.

It is gone...just showed video on the British Open of them taking it down behind fencing they erected. I actually had kind of a haunting feeling seeing the footage. Glad it's gone.

Another knee jerk over reaction all due to a report by the FBI Director, who by the way isn't a judge or juror. So how many kids did Paterno molest to warrant his statue coming down?

Comparing Tiger's infidelity to the molestation of a bunch of little kids is ridiculous.
And as to it happening at the workplace, I bet Tiger had a couple on the 18th green somewhere along the way.

A knee jerk reaction? Penn State is reliant upon tuition and enrollment to keep going as an educational institution, and who wants to go to school where people protect pederasts? The statue was theirs, on their property, and was 100% their right to remove. Public opinion is widely one that believes Joe Paterno was a man that despicably covered up the molestation of multiple children over a long period of time to protect his friend, as well as his image, and the image of his workplace and his football program. This reflects very poorly on Penn State as an institution, and keeping up a statue that is the object of so much anger among the public (whether or not it is justified) is a poor business move on Penn State's part. Penn State IS a business, and this was a business move - to save what little face they can.
