Pike was good enough to play QB at Auburn but not good enough to play QB for the Cards?

The TE aspect makes no sense. UL is not deep at QB.

    What could be the reason?

I've always thought TE would be his best position in college. However, I'm with you, this makes no sense. At least not this soon.

Louisville has Bridgewater as only a sophmore and Kyle Bolin committed for next year. Tight end is probably the best choice.

UL currently has 5 QB's and 4 TE's on the roster. Pike wouldn't play over Stein, much less over Bridgewater. Seems pretty simple as to the position change for me.

And as D-Rob just added, Kyle Bolin coming in next season. Pike would be #3 at best on the QB depth chart.

As a huge Kyle Bolin fan I am glad Pike chose the TE route. Now if we could just get Tebow to do the same......

As a true frosh I would agree. However, I'd RS him and then he would be , most likely, #2 next season UNTIL he proves he can't play the position.

This seems like a little bit of panic mode by me. He can't play this year anyway so why make this move? I think they should be more patient and keep the doors open for better opportunities. For example, I would rather play QB at a MAC school than move to TE at UL. I would at least wait longer, perhaps the entire semester and see who gets hurt, who misses on recruits, what schools change coaches, etc.

Maybe he doesn't want the workload or responsibility of being D-1 QB.

IMO no chance that played into this.

He has no choice but to redshirt this year. He is considered a transfer because he was already taking classes at Auburn before he got das boot...

GT ... what is your opinion on a player in this situation sitting out? Would Pike be better served not committing to anyone now, sitting it out this fall and then see what opportunities come to him as the season and recruiting progress?

He has to sit out a transfer year regardless of what happens because he started classes at Auburn. Might as well get it over with now and play next year...

Maybe and more importantly, the schools themselves don't believe he can handle the workload or responsibility of being a D-1 QB
