They have the best of both worlds right now, why would they give that up?

Attitude seems to be that the rest of college football needs them more than they need the rest of college football.

So back to my question, how is it bad for them to join a conference? It won't cost them money, are they afraid of the year in and year out grind of a conference schedule.

That's your biased, baseless (obviously against them) opinion.

They're stuck with bad conference games that won't help them. I basically covered this in post #86.
Look, if you're (not you personally) an Irish hater, no matter what they do will appease you.

They are doing fine because they went undefeated.

But they aren’t even. They are playing 12 games while the conference champ teams play 13 and recieve the benefit of being a conference champ. Something the committee explicitly states is a tie breaker between even teams.

The deal ND has with the ACC only benefits the ACC. They get the resume booster if they beat ND and they aren’t hurt by losing to ND. ND on the other hand can’t lose to the ACC schools and still make the playoffs. It’s a raw deal for ND IMO.

I don't care what they do...just in the current model, this is just the second time they've been (national title) relevant since they ran Lou Holtz off in favor of Bob Davie.

I don't see a down side of playing an ACC or B1G schedule for them.

I'm sure they could figure out a way to add Georgia Southern or The Citadel to their schedule to get a 13th game and make everybody happy, but I'm not sure what that would prove.

It really is too bad that Notre Dame doesn't get to play in a conference championship game. If they only had an opportunity to beat teams like Pitt and Northwestern, surely that would prove that they truly do belong in the CFP.

Play the SEC west every year and then get lucky enough to play Georgia or Florida and no one would complain about the rest of your schedule.

How many teams in the ACC, SEC, Big 10, Big 12 or the Pac-12 haven't and won't likely anytime in the next decade or so make it to the playoffs? When will those teams be relevant? Seems being in a conference hasn't done much for them, yet look at the Irish...

I remember people complaining about Alabama's schedule here on BGP this year! Can't remember if you were one of them or not.

Being in a conference wouldn't have helped them to be ranked any higher, so they're fine.

Yet they started out at #8 this year without being in a conference and just continued to climb toward that playoff spot. No conference was necessary. I like a team with the guts to control their own destiny.
