Just seen on the news the Redhawks opened their new indoor practice facility. It looks amazing.

Spoke with Sam Murrer and his father while at the Spring game. The kid is excited about joining Miami as that program is headed in the right direction under the new AD and Head Football Coach. Harbaugh said that indoor facility is nicer than a majority of the NFL facilities. The incoming recruits is a pretty big group of kids as well. Future looks good.

I believe Trevan Brown from Boone Co. will be a senior there next year. He has started on the offensive line the last couple years.

Correct. This is his senior year. He was fortunate enough to be one of five out 16 red shirt seniors to be asked back by Coach Martin. Coach martin is one of the best and most honest Coaches I have ever met. There's no sugar coating and BS.

The Berger looks like a fabulous facility. I'd love to see MU back in the thick of the MAC.

They received a 4 year scholarship, but did not receive that fifth year if they red shirted their freshman year. So, they initially got what they were offered of 4 years.

I'm sure those guys didn't redshirt on their own. Most kids don't but do so because the staff makes them. Back to my original question- 11 seniors lost their scholarships during the coaching change?

Again, they didn't lose a scholarship. They still got 4 years of education paid for. When you sign, you get a "4 year" scholarship, not five. If you have to redshirt your first year, that's just tough, it's DI football and some kids need that year to gain weight and learn new positions that they did not play in high school, they are still part of the football program. I don't think any school offers or will guarantee a 5 year scholarship right off the bat.

As an avid RedHawk fan and a alumni that will probably be bitter to the end of them caving to not be called the Redskins they will suck again this year. A matter of time until all,of the MAC is D2.

i'm sure they love your support as an Alum. Are you even aware of the Mac players that make it to the NFL each year? I'll hold judgement on how much they suck until mid season. How much do you know about this team and Staff? Just curious?

But they did, in fact, lose a scholarship. They were redshirted under a previous coaching staff and, I'm sure assumed that they would be given 4 more seasons to complete their eligibility. All scholarships are renewable each season so while what you are saying might have been within the confines of what is legal--it wasn't right. That makes watching my son's FCS team beat the Redhawks on their home field last season even sweeter. I just wish they played them again this season. Low class move by the coaching staff. I hope they go 0-12 this year.

You can't lose, what you aren't offered!!! If you think this only happens at Miami, you're dead wrong!! It's common with EVERY FBS program. Why in the heck would a player assume they would gain that extra playing year with a scholarship. Many are happy the new coach who may have a different future plan decided to keep them at all. There is nothing Wrong with a football coach not giving an extra year scholarship to a player who has not made a strong contribution and directing that extra scholarship number to a highly recruited freshman that fits his scheme. You sound bitter because maybe your son was denied by Miami, I don't know. Yes The Redhawks lost to an FCS school on a high school halfback pass play, and they talk about it often as the biggest joke of the year; loosing to them. Wishful thinking on 0-12 this year, they are bigger, stronger and better. I just hope your sons teammates can focus on education and football and stay out of the news for stupid bar fights. Good day sir. Go Redhawks!

IMO, what's bush league is taking away scholarships from kids that have been a part of the program for four years and were, most likely, looking forward to a senior season and all that comes with that. As a parent, nothing beats the recognition of senior night.

    Shameful.
