The quote going around is that although he flirted with Bama, he never wavered on his commitment to Louisville. Not sure about the "never", but it's nice to hear and I think he's genuinely excited to come here, especially after seeing how the staff has brought out the best in Lamar Jackson so far.

His mother has been firm in stating that a couple times. To the affect of "We have a great time when we visit Alabama, but he's not going there."

The information was good on former four-star LB Gary McCrae, who signed today. Was originally pledged to Georgia but failed to qualify last year and spent the season at a junior college. Has his academics in order and picked Louisville over Michigan State and Mississippi State. Apparently Louisville was very much into him before his commitment to UGA in high school.

    Welcome to Louisville.

Some newspaper in South Carolina is saying that a defensive end signed with Louisville this morning after the new staff at South Carolina wasn't as high on him. Cecil Stallings goes to the same high school as UofL LB signee Taberius Peterson. No confirmation from UofL yet.

First real surprise of the day.

Per Mark Ennis on Twitter, if UofL's class ranking holds at No. 36, then Petrino's three-year average will be the same as Strong's best three-year average at Louisville. That's not bad.

Ennis is doing some demonstrations of just how hard it is to get into that top tier of recruiting. Iowa just had a fantastic season; they're currently No. 45. The year after Louisville absolutely demolished Florida in the Sugar, they signed the No. 37 class.

Cecil Stallings (DE, Atlanta, GA) flipped his commitment today from South Carolina to Louisville.

Could grayshirt, so wouldn't be announced to UofL today.

    But Petrino can't recruit.

I think a lot of us in Louisville are finding out just how hard it is to break into that next level of recruiting. We're going after a lot of the same guys now as Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Mississippi State, etc. and we're not winning many of those battles. We may eventually get some sort of bump if we stay perennial competitive in the ACC, but trying to move to the next level is going to require a very long and very intensive process of continuing to build the program.

Charlie Strong could recruit pretty well at Louisville; with Texas' money and longstanding influence behind him now, we're finding out what kind of damage he can do on the trail. Guy woke up this morning with commitments from three guys in the ESPN Top 300. He's going to go to sleep tonight with letters of intent from at least 10.

No doubt the journey to get the best of the best will be long and probably frustrating. But we are already getting guys we weren't getting 5 years ago, and I see no reason why that trend won't continue in the future.

I enjoy the fact people get excited about recruiting. I don't care how many stars a kid has beside his name because I have seen to many kids be 4-5 stars and are duds. Also seen plenty of no-stars turn out to be Draft picks.

I am excited about the future of UL football.
