I heard an explanation for the fake punt...Smart put a play in specifically to go against Bama's Punt Safe defense. Play had been worked on for a while. Players just failed to line up correctly to even give the play a chance.

This really is such an odd season. First time having more than 1 P5 undefeated left at the end of the season in the playoff era. We have 3 this year. This has happened 3 times this millennium. First time a 1 loss team that won a conference championship game was left out. But also the first time a 2 loss non conference champ was considered for the playoff. I’m not going to complain that much more about being left out of the playoff because we did lose to Purdue. But this OSU team would have been in pretty solidly every year of the playoff up until this year. Bad luck. Notre Dame screwed it all up. Yet another reason why they should just join a damn conference already. We should have had 2 play in games last weekend with ND/ Clemson and Bama/ UGA. I get why ND fans want to stay independent, but damnit it sucks for the rest of college football.

I agree with your last sentence. There's a few here that will do that. I have caught flak for being a OSU football fan along with a die hard U.K. basketball fan as well as all U.K. Sports / teams. That's just me, the way I roll, lol. I graduated h.s. in the mid 70''s, Loved Woody Hayes & watching Archie Griffin / OSU and their style of football and have been a fan since that time. I've always been a die hard U.K. basketball, football along with all things U.K.. I don't see a problem but some can't understand that. .

I agree 100 %, ND is not going anywhere as far as conference until they have / are forced to and it doesn't look like that will happen.

As an OSU fan, I would have been happy for OSU if they got in over Oklahoma but cannot complain as OSU should have taken care of business against Purdue, Nebraska and Maryland and frankly did not. I think OSU would have had a better chance of beating Alabama than Oklahoma because I think OSU's ceiling is higher than anybody's in country except Alabama...but again, Oklahoma did not lay the biggest egg ever against Purdue.

Finally, I really hope we never get to the point where a 2 loss non conference champ gets in would have been really unfair to Alabama if Georgia was put in at 4 so basically Bama had to eat Georgia two straight times to move on.
Agreed on the OSU comments, analogy and on your UGA / 2 loss team before a 1 loss . My only point for UGA in is that one thing that they said that this playoff system would do is put the 4 best teams in the playoff …. I just think that UGA is one of the top 4 teams in the country. Just when we think that we know what the commite wants …. they change or add something else.

Why should ND play in a conference? No one is forcing any other school to play in a conference ? It's not like they play FCS schools like some conference. ND plays as many FBS schools as SEC programs.

Actually Notre Dame plays more FBS schools than SEC programs, considering that some SEC schools actually play FCS schools and Notre Dame never does.

Because they will always be able to avoid playing a conference champ game and risk losing and missing the playoffs.

I for one would like some more uniformity in scheduling in college football. That’s why I would like to see ND join a conference. That way we wouldn’t have to argue the semantics as much and resumes would be a lot easier to compare.
