And ever Penn State player during this time period just took a slap across the face. I understand the all time wins thing but why do this to the players?

I felt like you did until I heard someone on Cowherds show today. He stated that wins are taken away when a team gets a competitive or recruiting advantage due to the act or deed committed. As he explained it, the cover up started in 98, to protect the program. Had it came out in 98 that someone that close to Paterno and PSU football was having his way with boys in the showers, it would have damaged PSU's reputation and would have hurt recruiting and fund raising for the program. Hence by covering up the actions they did get an unfair competitive/recruiting advantage.

Collateral damage.

I agree as well. What happened was horrible but to me really had nothing to do with wins and loses. Although I do understand GT's point about the NCAA taking away the all time wins mark from Paterno.

Hard to justify having JoePa sitting as the all time winningest coach in FBS history.

Tell that to Eddie Robinson...

Did UK get an unfair advantage, using this line of thinking, by covering up Eddie Sutton's and Billy Clyde's drinking.....Iowa State for covering up Larry Eustachy's fondness for frat parties and sorority girls? Does any school get an unfair advantage if they don't publicly disclose any actions by their personnel that might harm recruiting?

Is drinking or banging of age frat girls with their consent among the most heinous crimes possible? No? Next question...

Heck it's not even a crime.
