The intensity of Frank Martin's teams have been a known for many years. Playing in the SEC is a tough recruiting gig at a football school. I know the Cats and Cal have a high respect for his program and never take a South Carolina victory for granted as they have upset UK twice under Martin. I wonder if his two years on Huggy's staff at UC will work for him or against him. His program at Kansas State was very successful. Curious as to if his blue collar background will mesh with the UC inner powers.

He does have a Final 4 on the resume though.

Coaching at South Carolina is tough and yet Martin got them to fourth in the SEC this year when they didn't really have elite talent.

He has been a head coach for 12 years. He has only made the NCAA tournament 5 times in those 12 years. In those 5 years he made it, three times he was out the first weekend.

So while it wouldn't be a bad choice if they got him. It would be nowhere near a homerun hire.

Frank Martin is out (took himself out of running) and looks like Craig Smith (Utah Valley State) might be too.

So true. Compare Martin's resume over the past 8 or as so years with Mick's and it is a slam dunk in Mick's favor. Yet many UC people prefer Martin over Mick. Eye of the beholder.

Might be a little tougher competing in the Big 12 and SEC.

Perhaps this year. The SEC sure hasn't been a world beater the previous few years though.

Mick has nine straight years in the NCAA tournament and his worst season was 22 wins in that time. Six of the past nine seasons 26 or more wins.

Frank in the past nine years has three trips to the NCAA and one season with 26 wins.

That is over the past nine years. I think we can get a feel for each coach over nine years regardless of conference. Personally, I pick Mick Cronin over Frank Martin every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

UC needs to stop slow playing Brannen and make it official.

I called this in the beginning of this thread. Had a feeling this would be Coach Brannen’s opportunity and think he deserves this shot. Although I am not a UC fan, I which him much success.
