Does you thoughts change if Wichita state joins the conference?

BTW I think differently, they cant win the Conference they are in now, so does being the 6th, 7th, 8th best team in a bigger conference really help them?

The national champion came out of the AAC just a couple of years ago...maybe three in UConn. It was a down year for the conference with Memphis collapsing in the last two months of the season and UConn rebuilding. However blaming the conference isn't useful. SMU and Cincinnati are consistently powers during the season and collapse in the tournament...look at their history. Nothing changes in the $$ world of the NCAA...the ACC could have all teams with losing records, and they will still get eight teams in and the SEC will get five as will the Big Ten. It is ironic Memphis spanked South Carolina earlier this year, and SC is still alive. How did they even get in the tourney?

UCLA should have been a 2 seed at worst with UC likely a 5 seed if the committee seeds both properly. This loss had ZERO to do with coaching. Simply beat by a better and more talented team who shot over 60% in the second half with 11 3's for the game.
You gotta beat who they put in front of you. Others seem to find ways to get it done at least once in awhile. Maybe next year is Mick's year? Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then.

    That's HIGHLY debatable.

I like Cronin as a coach well enough, and think he's done a decent job, but 1 Sweet 16 appearance in 11 years (9 if you wanna be nice and give him a pass on the 1st two seasons), does leave quite a bit to be desired IMO.

But since Mick's teams consistently underachieve, let's take a look at his post season results:

    2011: 6 seed
    #6 UC 78 #11 Missouri 63
    #3 UConn 69 #6 UC 58
UConn went on to win the national championship

    2012: 6 seed
    #6 UC 65 #11 Texas 59
    #6 UC 62 #3 Florida State 56
    #2 Ohio State 81 #6 UC 66
Ohio State beat #1 Cuse in the Region final to advance to the Final 4 before losing by 2 to Kansas.

    2013: 10 seed
    #7 Creighton 67 #10 Cincinnati 63
Creighton was led by lottery pick, Doug McDermott

    2014: 5 seed
    #12 Harvard 61 #5 UC 57

    2015: 8 seed
    #8 UC 66 #9 Purdue 65
    #1 Kentucky 64 #8 UC 51
In case you forgot, this was an undefeated final 4 UK team with 8 future pros.

    2016: 9 seed
    #8 St Josephs 78 #9 UC 76
St Joe was led by Deandre Bembry...1st round #21 pick..this was the game where Ellis dunk at the buzzer to send it to OT was waved off.

    2017: 6 seed
    #6 UC 75 #11 Kansas State 61
    #3 UCLA 79 #6 UC 67

So in 7 tournament appearances, Mick is 5-7 with just ONE LOSS to a team that was a lower seed and 3 of those losses coming to final 4 teams (UCLA still TBD). I wouldn't exactly call that underachieving considering the teams he has lost to in the tournament.
It seems like he beats the teams that he should beat according to seeding and pretty much nothing more. UC has made 1 Final Four since JFK wad in the White House. It would seem that he has built UC into a fringe Top 25 team that makes the Tourney most years but is no real factor as far as contending for a Final Four. If UC fans are satisfied with that they could do a lot worse for a head coach.

I found Mick's halftime interview to be very strange. Cincinnati has become known for its defensive effort, and they did an awesome job of limiting UCLA to 30 points in the 1st half. Mick makes a comment about how he gets annoyed when people talk about UC's defense, and sure enough, UCLA scores 49 in the 2nd half. I found that to be a bit odd.

I did not see the halftime interview, but will venture a guess he feels UC is being "disrespected."

It does if we are only talking basketball.

From an overall athletic program standpoint, they still need to get out.

UC has won a game in 4 of the past 7 tournaments. In 2011 they lost to eventual champion UConn in the 2nd round. In 2012 they lost to Final Four Ohio State in Sweet 16. In 2014 they lost to 38-1 FF Kentucky 2nd round. This year it was 30 win UCLA.

Reality is things just haven't broken their way when they have had their best teams.

Little known fact. The 2012 win over 3 seed FSU is the only time UC has beaten a higher seed in the tournament in the last 30 years. The former coach never once beat a team seeded higher. That includes the 92 Final Four team that was a 4 seed. The bracket broke their way and they took advantage...

    Wow.

I was going to ask about the '92 season. That's a crazy stat.
