- Guy gets into heaven. Sees an old man in a houndstooth hat walking on water. "Is that Bear Bryant?" He asks Saint Peter. "Naw" Pete says, "that's God. He just thinks he's Bear Bryant."

LINK
After years of study and consideration, the Men's Basketball Rules Committee voted to recommend extending the three-point line to 20 feet, 9 inches starting with the 2008-09 season.
Here we go!

We have been over this before. I do not like it. I believe if it aint broke then why fix it. I think the NCAA should have experimented with this in the early season tourneys first before implementing it into a fulltime rule.

Great!! The old line is to close, but I hope they leave High School the way it is. Most players shoot from that far out anyway.
- May 3, 07, 01:14 PM #8I'm not sure of specifics and I'll see what I can find when I get home. I know I've seen it used several times over the last two years...

Also listed in there...
Free Throw Change
The committee also voted to alter its free throw alignment. This change will eliminate the first lane space nearest the basket on each side of the lane and using the present second, third and fourth lane space on each side of the lane as an alignment for free throws.

I am so glad they are changing the 3 point line... it is way too close right now, imo.

I pretty sure UK did two years ago in the tournament where we lost to Iowa and then beat West Virginia. I just remember for that tourmament we played our first two games at Rupp and it had that new 3 point line for it...

Replacing lines for tournaments would not be a great idea. Consider the cost of sanding, removing paint and refinishing, just for a couple of games?!
- May 3, 07, 01:36 PM #14I dont think too many schools would worry much about the cost.

I, too, thinks its long overdue...The current distance is just too close... I dont like it when anyone and everyone can make a 3, it takes away from its importance. I've seen alot of decent teams beat very good teams because they got hot from the arc, Vandy comes to mind, and if they change it, at least those decent teams will have accomplished something.

It has been experimented with in various early season tournaments over the past few years. I think this is a much needed change! The 3 point line goes unchanged from grade school to high school to college...
- May 3, 07, 02:38 PM #18I have seen grade school kids who can hit it fairly consistently. It should be moved back after high school.

Actually it's not a done deal yet. On the bottom line of ESPN it says it has to go through a final vote in May before it is approved.

I like the idea but I thought they would go with the international line at 20'6". Hopefully this will deter some of the not so good shooters from hoisting it up.
