From what I heard on the radio today, the UK Student Body President received a ring along with the big money boosters.

I really wouldn't be surprised if past Presidents, celebrities, various faculty and so on haven't been receiving rings for years and years. The only difference is that in the past people weren't tweeting pics, posting facebook status's etc talking about their rings when they got them.

I hope Billy G got one. Without him UK doesn't win this year.

My outrage is equally the same. I think it is equally stupid for ANYONE not remotely affiliated with building a championship to get a championship ring. Cheapens it. Period point blank.
(Smokey voice). YOU DIDN'T PUT IN ON THIS!!!! MAAANNNNNN.
Well considering Brandon Weems was on the UK staff... yeah, he's probably got one too.

I had a coworker whose brother worked the ticket booth at Fenway. He got a ring when the Red Sox won the WS. THE HORROR!

Employees don't bother me. I said coaches and staff. They're more deserving than celebrities and hanger ons of the program.

Oh, I thought he might have been Drake's driver or Obama's toilet flusher or something.

I might be mistaken but it seems like I remember reading somewhere that Brandon Weems was a high school teammate of LeBron James and that they continue to be really close friends. Apparently Weems is why we have seen LBJ make appearances in Rupp.

Makes sense. So LBJ should be receiving his UK ring soon then. If he hasn't already.

From now on if you feel like it is okay for Drake to get a national championship ring then do not ever mention UK's 8 championships to me ever again. You have lost credibility with me if you think it is fine and good for UK if Drake can receive a championship ring. There is sooooo much that goes into getting that championship. The players make the ultimate sacrifice, then the coaches and the rest of the staff. Lives change because of championships. Player's legacies are built on championships.(see Lebron James). Coach's legacies are built on championships.(see Calipari). The time, the blood, sweat and tears involved...the aches and pains...the whirlwind of life that takes place in and out of locker rooms for a 6 month period chasing the ultimate goal in a tournament where one off night ends your season. The moment when UK finally ascended back to the top of the throne of college basketball with a national title(#8) is cheapened by allowing a marijuana abusing, alcohol abusing, mysognistic and soft human being in general have his own personal championship ring that he did absolutely nothing to earn. It's a slap in the face to those who did earn the ring and a slap in the face to those who did more for the program than Drake and won't receive a ring. If it's all about getting UK 'out there' then enjoy being out there and don't ever mention 8 championships or 9 championships to me again. Your words ring hollow. You don't need championships to be 'out there'.
......steps off soapbox......
Bravo!!

By in large I have been pretty impressed with Cal's PR moves at UK (interacting with Alumni unlike Billy Clyde, the Haiti fund raiser, how he conducts Big Blue Madness, his constant support for the struggling football program, etc., etc., etc..) This one I am not too crazy about. I fully understand why he did, it produces an image in the program that recruits will find appealing but I think in a small way it does cheapen the ring itself. By no means am I upset with Cal, this is just one move I wish he had not done but will lose no sleep over it.
On the other hand, I have no problem with the president getting a ring, and trust me, it is not because I am a fan of Obozo, quite the contrary. I think due to the prestige of the office of president makes it OK with teams give jersey's or rings to the president. I believe an invitation to the white house justifies those invited giving the president some form of a thank you gift out of courtesy.
