I'm all too familiar to the defense that was played on Knox. You put a smaller, quicker but strong defender on him to face-guard and crowd his space. It makes it very difficult to get uncontested shots. It's difficult to go to the post because he would have been doubled; because it's easier to double the post. It makes him work for every shot and the cumulative effect is you have a frustrated, tired scorer who can't get off shots, contested or uncontested.

The handshake thing is stupid. Kentucky was in line shaking hands and K-State players ran off to celebrate. There's actually a picture of UK players shaking hands. They need to act like they've been there before...oh wait.

To me the biggest factor was that K State shut down SGA.
As Green, SGA and Diallo were becoming ineffective and/or accumulating fouls, I was wondering who could Cal play at guard after those three. I don't think there would be anyone else. It was a bad time for all 3 of them to have a bad game.

Oh well. At least I can root for the Ramblers now without reservation.

UK needs more Darius Miller/Dominique Hawkins type players. Kentucky kids who grew up loving U.K. and will stick around four years and may have that little extra bit of heart in games like these. At least one of those guys on each team to balance with the one and dones. No title in 2012 without Miller.

And that’s why I wish they would go after that kid at Hopkinsville, can’t remember his name, but he can flat out play.

Probably not Nazr since he won 2 titles anyway.

I don't know if you can blame all that on the refs. I think Kansas State got pretty much what they wanted. They wanted to play physical and didn't care about getting called for fouls. Kansas State's game versus UMBC was even worse to watch than the UK game. I will be interested in seeing what it looks like when they play Loyola. Don't be surprised if it is another almost unwatchable game. I think that's the way Kansas State wants it to be.

9/10 times those are not mutually exclusive.

Only if those kids can actually play. That's why I think Kentucky missed the boat with Hollingsworth from Dunbar - he proved his ability at the high school level and is doing so again at Western. However, it would be foolish to automatically sign Mr. Basketball or guarantee a scholarship to a Kentucky kid at the expense of a better player just because he happens to be from the bluegrass.

So is there a KY player out there that can get drafted and play in the NBA (Miller) or a player that can play in the D League (Hawkins)?

Yeah but those guys are all 4's and 5's in the NBA. Knox will be a 3. He'll never play down though in the league.

Should have never let Hollingsworth out of Lexington

They make the tournament that year if Nerlens doesn't go down.

Problem is those players are few and far between. Darius Miller was almost a top 40 recruit in the whole country. KY just doesn't grow those type of players all that often.

Other than CJ Frederick and maybe Jay Scrubb, I'm not sure of any senior who could play at Kentucky. Obviously there could be some surprises.
