True...he’s from Nashville...about as close to Lexington as Memphis. He moved to Memphis during high school. I don’t know about his family situation.

Not true, but maybe contributed. Tubby didn’t bring any energy or passion to the job at Memphis and it showed in the results. He did nothing to connect the program locally as is necessary in Memphis or any city with an NBA franchise competing for the entertainment dollar. Attendance was falling through the floor. Personally, I like Tubby and thought he would do well, but it became clear that it wasn’t working out.

Didn't one of his closest friends commit there, after decommitting from UK, Jeffries? Could be a factor as well. Plus, I can see an allure of playing for a NBA star like Penny. Especially when you add in geography.

I wouldn’t rule out Kansas as much as we hate it. They’ve had inroads into Memphis with Tarik Black and the Lawson brothers leaving UM to go there.

Penny got him to move from Nashville to Memphis to play HS ball there. His HS teammate Malcom Dandridge is a Memphis commit. His summer ball teammate DJ Jeffries is a Memphis commit. Penny convinced Wiseman to stay at East High and not bolt for Findlay Prep so he could keep an eye on him (East High is about a mile from campus). When Team Penny folded Wiseman started playing for a team coached by Memphis asst. coach, Michael Miller's, brother. The signs of Wiseman to Memphis have been trending that way since Penny got the job.

I think the Lawson's wish they were with Penny coached Memphis. DJ Jeffries is their cousin and he committed to Memphis. I think Jonathan Lawson will commit to Memphis in time.

Jefferies and Wiseman are not close. Penny massaging the situation to get both on board is the most impressive part in all this...

    Interesting.

Is Jeffries more of a step toward getting Jonathan Lawson than actually wanting Jeffries?

I mean, possibly. He’s also a talented local kid they had a long relationship with. It was just going to take some work behind the scenes to get Wiseman and his camp on board with them paying together...

One and done systems rely on ultra elite talent. Quade and Richards sticking around 4 years, isn’t Cal’s system.

Just a passing thought. What did we learn from the FBI case that didn't get even a tenth of the attention it deserved? How much was being paid to kids and their families to play for high level AAU teams. What AAU team did Wiseman play for? What high school did he move 4.5 hours from home to play at? The hay is already in the barn here. It isn't that hard to connect the dots, and they aren't as simple as "well Penny coached him already,". Or maybe it is...
