The tournament was anti-climactic when UCLA and coach Wooden were on their run in the 60s and 70s. You just knew they were going to win. Givens had 41 for UK in '78 but the best performance was Walton's 21 out of 22 field goal attempts against Memphis (I think) in the final. He was a tremendously dominant and cerebral player. In 1966 UK's Louie Dampier would have eaten up the early 3-point line. UK used to run plays to get him a jump shot at the top of the circle. UC and Ohio State had great runs in the early 60's.Advertisement

The interesting thing about 96 & 12 UK...they both lost two games, but also beat every team they played. 96 lost to UMass in the regular season, but beat them in the Tournament. Lost to Mississippi State in the SEC finals, but beat them in the regular season.
2012 lost to Indiana in the regular season, but beat them in the Tournament. Lost to Vandy in the SEC finals, but beat them twice in the regular season.
