I know what you meant, dangit.

You just wish those Jesuits were as steeped in the Latin tradition as my Marianists.

    It stands for VNIVERSITAS DAYTONENSIS.

Circling back to Louisville for a second, and to be clear, I'm NOT a fan of the Cards, but man, as a college basketball guy, their remaining schedule is NUTS!!!

    H for UVA
    H for UNC
    H for BC (junk)
    A for Duke
    A for Notre Dame
    H for Syracuse
    H for Duke
    A for Pitt
    A for Miami (FL)
    H for GaTech (junk)
    A for UVA

    Whew...

Yeah we'll find out what they're made of, regardless of computer rankings.

Really looking forward to that UVa game tomorrow. It's one of those games Louisville has to win if they're going to stay clear of the full pack chasing UNC for those other three double-byes come ACC tournament time.

I'd have used Kenpom, BPI, and Sagarin. (Massey is good too) RPI is useless as a predictor, not even that strong on true performance vs your strength of schedule and has lost value with the selection committee the last few years.

In Louisville's case, it suggests that the road wins over NC State and Georgia Tech are as impressive or more impressive than the home beatdowns of Pitt and Florida State.

Ultimately what KenPom's numbers always like about Louisville is the schedule-adjusted defense. Louisville is 6th there. And unlike last year, the numbers favor the adjusted offense as well, coming in 22nd.

Ultimately they're interesting tools but don't mean much until late February when you've played through the meat of your schedule and they can tell us something about what we might be able to look for come conference and national tournaments.
Can't agree with this at all. Beating Michigan State at home is WAY better than beating IPFW or Siena on the road.

That's a straw man argument because neither of those teams are top 90.

A straight up comparison would be beating MSU by 2 at home or beating Georgia by 2 on the road. That's a lot closer to what he said. I still take the MSU though.

They are in the RPI, which is what I believe Getslow was referring to with rankings...

As is pointed out below, neither of those teams is in the Top 90. But let's use other teams that aren't so extreme.

More noteworthy: beating Oregon at home or winning at Oklahoma State?

More noteworthy: beating Wichita State at home or winning at Memphis?

So his theory states that a win over Chattanooga or Grand Canyon on the road is as impressive as beating Michigan State at home? Yeah, there's no way anyone really believes that.
