    College Basketball Crisis

Great in March but not the entire season. Product is getting worse.

Open up the lane, both physically by moving the lines and by actually calling all the nonsense that goes on down there. Turns post defense into a game of denying the ball to a big man rather than bodying up on him. If people are worried about points, that'll be instant points.

That said, people are going to complain no matter what. It's what they do. If they make all these changes, in a decade we'll be having a crisis of college basketball and all the headlines will read "What happened to defense?"

IMHO, the most significant issue is the declining skill level of the players.

I think part of the problem is the players have become very good at manipulating the officials. Faking being hurt, flops, overacting on contact, offensive players creating contact and acting like they got fouled, etc Today's players have become very good actors.

I've wondered more than once if there would be any benefit to defensive three seconds being implemented at the college level.

It's pretty telling when they show the stat at halftime last night of the last time the Championship game was tied at half was something like 1988 or 1989 and the score was 50-50

That is around 40 more points scored in just the 1st half of the game from last nights 31-31 tie.
Offense has been down for awhile in the college game and I think it is because most teams play for either the dunk or the 3 point shot. Shooting is a lost cause anymore in today's game. The days of the 15 foot jump shot have gone by the wayside and because there are so few pure shooters anymore the scoring is down and makes the game tough to watch.
