I'd say Hopkinsville's been pretty great the last few years: lost close ones in the finals in 1996 and 1997, lost to St. X on a last-second TD in the semifinals in 1999, then lost to Boyle by a touchdown in the semis in 2001 and 2002. Ask the Boyle people who they'd rather play, Rockcastle or Hoptown? The Tigers have been much more competitive.

Mayfield dominates this region in Class A, much like Danville and the Beechwood-NewCath duo in their areas. Danville hasn't been tested in their region since Bardstown was moved up to 2A ... NewCath and Beechwood have almost had free passes in the semifinals in recent years against ... eastern Kentucky.

2A and 4A are our weak links, no doubt about it.

You cannot base a decision on just one team, when one lists WKY, they include all the teams into their decision. Not just 1. For HopTowns success there are at least 3-4 teams that take their place as being just as bad in that part of the state, same can be said about all regions.

A Trinity Male all-star team would crush a Eastern All-Star team probably by a blow out

QB Brohm then with some funked formations Bush

    RB Spencer/ Elbert

    WR Bush /McBroom /May /Mudd

lol with just that set of skilled players I would put up them up against alot of all-star teams across the country.

As i have stated on other post I base my thoughts on observation. In 2001 Rockcastle would have been 4th in hoptown's district if they could have beaten Calloway Co.They would have gone out the first round of the region against Bowling Green. This year they would have been probably 3rd or 4th in the region behind Hoptown and Paducah.Warren Central,Allen Co and Hopkins Central were all capable of beating them.I have always been a fan of no ky football. What has happened that would allow a team like the Rock to come out of that end of the state? That being said here are my rankings

These are based on competition from top to bottom in the areas.

1 Louisville area----Size of schools and open enrollment(ha,ha)have led to the haves and the have nots.

2 Northern Ky------Still alot of pride and tradition---emergence of Dixie Hts and Mason Co have taken the sting out.

3 West Ky-----Still the best place to find skilled kids---Think it has fallen off some in the last few years with the demise of Russellville,Ft Campbell, and a few more.I still can't get the thought out of mind of Tim Couch and the 61-0 thrashing he took.

4 Central Ky----Lexington is overrated and who besides Danville and Boyle? I thought the Jessamines had made some inroads until the playoffs.

5 Eastern Ky---- Good lineman and qbs-----But if the Rock is your best team well I'm sorry.

I reality there is not as much difference in the areas as people think.Good teams are good teams.A lot of who plays in the state championships is about who you have to play to get there.

Eastern Kentucky is by far more than linemen and quarterbacks. In fact here in EKY reside probally the best group of recievers in KY and some of the top running backs.

WR- Thomas, Johnson, and the third slips my mind from Breathitt
    Haynes and Battle from Cumberland
    Stephen Taylor from Williamsburg
Issac Mills and Justin Barton of Corbin

    RB- Marty Ragen of Rock
Jarrod Lawson-Corbin (probally best junior RB in KY)
    Fanin- pburg
    Caudill- Belfry
    Tewayne Willis- Perry Central
    Todd Maggard- Harlan
    Chris Schneider- Middlesboro

    QB- Eddie Creech- Cumberland
    Justin HAddix- Breathitt
    Sizemore- HAzard
    Brock- Corbin
    Allen- Middlesboro
    Greer- BEll Co.

Great thread, I think I might have some solid imput on this thread. My family is from easternketucky and my farther has coached at notherky where he was a part of a state title, he has coached the louisville area where he had two 10-1 teams and he has coached at western part of the state and was part of 2 state titles. From general observations I would give nothernky a slight nod over westernky. Most people are going to say louisville area and they do have the top 3 easily (trinty, male st.x) but if you would rank the top ten I believe they would be third. Below are my view of westernky top 10 programs the last 20 years or so.

    1. Mayfield- One of the elite programs in the state.
    2. Hoptown- Couple of titles and couple more coming.
    3. Bowling Green- Won a title in 96 always tough.
    4. Henderson- Great talent should have won a title by now.
    5. Christian- Couple of titles, seem to regain their form.
    6. Waren Central- Always fast and talented.
    7. Owensbore- Remember higgs and company.
    8. Caldwell - two titles tradition of great coaches
    9. Trigg - Won a title in the 70's came close in late 80's.
    10. Apollo- Loaded with speed just get over the hump.

Your cracking me up, I'll respect your opinion on where you think that the Rock would finish in that district, but it makes me
It's shame I guess that Rockcastle County was so LUCKY not be competing with the west, amybe then Hopkinsville wouldn't have been shut out 4 straight years from a chance to get to the Big Dance. It is just great having to play Northern kentucky each year to get there, I mean they are the most historied area in the state, an area in which claims at least 60% of all state titles in a decade each decade, I would trade any day with you to have to play CKY teams, instead of NKY teams. You said you don;t know what has happened to allow Rockcastle County the chance at 2 state titles, well I'm afraid your in a bit of denial, because both times we eliminated a NKY opponent and in turn received great respect from them in which is also returned from me. I would have given anything to have played HopTown this season espcially, considering the fact they only threw the ball about 5-10 times in their last 5 games, I believe I would take our run defense against your run offense anyday. We've not been in the Top 5 in that category for 10 years and counting for nothing.

No they filled their schedule up before the season ended last year.

They added Larue County and Southwestern Pulaski...If they were to ever meet up, it would most likely have to be in a Bowl Game, it is about 3 1/2 hours to the other end of the state.

    Two observations ...

Wildman, if you think Lawson is the best junior RB in the state, you've never seen Joe Casey. And you'll have a tough time favorably comparing mountain skill kids with those from the rest of the state.

3wishes, the only reason you haven't seen Hopkinsville in Louisville is because they had to play Boyle before the mighty Rock did ... Hoptown played Boyle tougher than anyone the last two years ... when Rockcastle makes Boyle actually break a sweat, then we'll talk.

Kinda says it all, doesn't it? ... Tilghman goes out and picks up Henry Clay and Ballard, Hoptown and Male have become an annual thing and Rockcastle picks up ... LaRue and Southwestern.

3 Wishes I think Hoptown would have thrown more against the Rock if they would have played. After seeing their db's everybody should have!!!!!In WKy you had better be able to throw well or you are going to pay.It wouldn't have mattered because the Rock wouldn't have scored anyway.Hoptown held Bowling Green,WarrenCentral,Paducah, and Boyle Co to a total of 20 pts in the playoffs.I hate to bust your bubble but Tremayne Willis is from Hoptown!!!!!He is your fastest guy from the mountains isn't he?When he lived here they called him Turtle because he couldn't keep up with the other kids.

I would take the all stars from these teams and put them against the allstars from the rest of the state. If thats not enough we would spot you 10 pts.
Man I wish I had magical powers to make this happen. I'll take NKY or 'Ville, you chose. Spot me 10, that's up to you, I think we'll be playing our 3rd backups by the end of the first quarter.
