You're The Czar Of The International Olympic Committee...
...which sports stay, which sports go, and which sports do you add?
(Yes, I'm well aware that there is no IOC Czar, nor is there any single person with the IOC who has the ability to make decisions like this one.)Last edited by Colonels_Wear_Blue; Jul 31, 12 at 08:36 AM.

I'd be the guy who made a BIIIIIIIIIIIIIG change in the Olympics: No more competitions that involve judged scores. I'd want "my" Olympics to consist of sports where there is nothing left to opinion. All quantifiable accomplishments...winner runs faster than other competitors, winner shoots more bullseyes than other competitors, winner lifts more weight.

Off the top of my head a few changes I'd make.
- I would showcase handball
- I would eliminate soccer as they already have their World Cup.
- Competitive walking is gone.
- I'd go back to the "only bikini" rule for beach volleyball.
- I would add Ironman-distance triathlon to the Olympics.
- I'm with cwb on the quantifiable sports so diving, equestrian, gymnastics, synchronised swimming, and trampoline are gone.
- I would add MMA as a sport.
- bring back softball for sure. I'd have to think about baseball.
- I would make sure basketball didn't go to U-23.
So it looks like I'd make some big changes myself.

I would also institute a requirement that either the Olympics had to a) be in the Eastern Time Zone or b) scheduled to cater to the Eastern Time Zone. Selfish and stereotypical American I know but if I'm the Czar I want to be able to watch all the good stuff live.

I don't mind gymnastics either. And I REALLY like boxing. I just want to remove anything that creates added potential for favoritism, partiality, or cheating. Only allowing 100% quantifiable competitions is your best bet. If someone could propose to me a twist on boxing or gymnastics that removed judges, I'd be all in favor.

MMA Grand Prix would be awesome.
Softball and baseball would be back.
Rugby.
More high powered, long rang shooting.
Change the "top 2" gymnastics rule.
Create 2 International Training facilities in the world for poorer countries/athletes to be able to field more athletes in all sports.
I wouldn't drop anything, and maybe look to make Olympics 3 week event.

Just 5 hours difference this time and it is still all out of whack.
ESPN ruins it for most, but NBC is BAD.

How about some Basketball? Haha! I love playing it with friends at the gym when 21 gets old and we don't have enough for a pick up game.

I'd add HORSE (basketball) to the Olympics...for real.

A couple of former sports I'd bring back:
Plunge Diving: The "long jump" of diving. Competitors dove into the pool from a standing position and their attained distance was measured after either 60 seconds passed or their head broke the surface, whichever came first. Divers could not propel themselves through the water after the initial dive as they were required to remain motionless. It premiered and ended after the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis.
Tug-of-War: 6 on 6 team tug-of-war. The event was competed in at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris, the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis, the 1908 Summer Olympics in London, the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, and the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp.
