As big of a pro sports fan as I am and how little I care about horse racing, I still would never give up the Kentucky Derby. It's a major part of who we are and one of the only reasons some people even know that Kentucky is a place. That race is the pride of our state. I want a pro team BADLY, but losing our namesake isn't worth it.

It's more than just a 2-minute race. It's everything that builds up to it. The race itself is just the culmination of all the build-up.

So if Anthony Davis played for the Lexington Hornets people wouldn't support the team? Yeah, right. The Derby is vastly overrated. Look no further than BGP to find out what people care about the most regarding Pro Sports and The Derby. If folks need an excuse to get drunk and watch horses for two minutes holler at me in October and we can go to Keeneland.

    Just sayin'

More people around the world know more about Kentucky via the Ky Derby than any sporting event held in Ky and that includes Ky Basketball. You honestly have no idea the impact, that one single race, has around the world!

Than again, I am sure you think the Super Bowl, is the most watch sporting event on TV in the world also!

They tried that stuff where you stack the teams with local interest players in the 1970s with the ABA. It didn't work, and the Colonels were one of the best in the league.

People in Kentucky — as a whole — do not care about pro basketball enough to be able to support a team. Again, you would be asking people who are already shelling out for UK or UofL tix to also dig deeper to support an NBA team. It's not gonna happen, because the population and economic base is not there to support it. Unless you have this wild idea that there are enough NBA-only fans not already supporting UK or UofL who can fill the arena 50 or more nights a year.

    Asinine.
I am almost positive that Asinine was NOT this year's Derby winner.

No but that sure does describe my betting strategies for most KY Derbies.

But if this thread is about what I would do, I'd make the trade in less time than it took you to type that post.
