What Would, Or Wouldn't, You Eat?
Heard some discussion on the radio today about meat that people think is acceptable or not to eat. For instance, I've eaten goat, ostrich, alligator, I would eat horse if given the chance. I think I'd try dog or kangaroo, but I can't see eating possum, rat or cat.
How about you? What would you try? What have you already had? What would turn your stomach just thinking about it?

I draw the line at rodents. I've had alligator, all kinds of fish from Shark to Octopus, goat, etc but I don't think I could eat a rat or opossum or something like that. Of all the non-traditional meats I've tried I like alligator the best. It's very good.

I've tried a lot of different things. I'm absolutely crazy for froglegs.
I love deer and elk.
I've also tried antelope, bear and buffalo.
Alligator was good, oppossum & raccoon not so much.
I like small game like squirrel and rabbit if fixed right.
I've never tried rattlesnake, but I would like to.
I've eaten shark and swordfish and mahi mahi, but not octopus.
I don't think I'd ever try sushi of any kind, just doesn't appeal to me.
Ive eaten grasshoppers and ants and snails.
I have tried quail and pheasant and duck.
I ate a night crawler once on a dare, tasted like a mixture of snot and dirt.

To quote Col. Potter, "How could anyone eat a Horse? It is a noble beast. We are doing cows and pigs a favor, they are ugly!
OK its a loose quote. I could not eat a horse anything in the rodent family. I have had squirrel in a burgoo. I have had mountain oysters from pigs and calves. Couldn't even think about eating a dog or cat, which is why I don't eat Chinese food.

I've had goat curry several times. Also ate muskrat once or twice as a kid. Squirrel, rabbit, alligator, just about every kind of seafood.
I do make it a point to check the classified ads for lost pets before eating at either of the local Chinese restaurants.

I eat the normal things - pig, chicken, cow, turkey.
I've had deer jerky and enjoy it. Never any other form.
I would not eat horse, rodent, opposum, raccoon, or any reptile (snakes, etc.)\
I could never bring myself to eat a cat or dog.
I could try squirrel and rabbit, but haven't.

I pride myself on being open to tryong new things but I don't know that I could willingly eat rat. Bugs of any kind also are likely on the NO TRY list.

Ate a snail in the shell on a dare. Tasted like snot and egg shells. My relatives ate anything during the depression. Coons and possums were top shelf table fare. Dad had a good possum dog in the 30's and was often offered big money for it. I know 2 teenage sisters that will fight over squirrel brains. Fry them in the skull with your other squirrel parts. Crack them open like a walnut and scoop out the brains with a teaspoon. No kidding!

I have eaten Tennessee Opossum and even have a good recipe. I would not MAKE it but I'll eat it.
Had rattlesnake once. Not my favorite.
Eaten some squirrel, in fact, its a staple of Kentucky Burgoo.
I ate a 'grub' one time as part of a survivalist course out west, will not ever do that again, and in fact I draw the line at insectoid 'proteins.'
Many of you indubitably recall "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' dinner at the maharajah's palace. Won't eat "chilled monkey brain," "eel surprise," or any dish in which the eyes have been disattached for my gastronomical pleasure.

The weirdest thing I guess I've ate is horse. Not too bad...but I prefer beef. I would not try dog under any circumstance.
