Apparently the Scandinavian countries play handball more progressively and sometimes use this strategy.

This makes me more of a fan of the non-stop substitution in handball.

These make them poor comparisons to a child kicking or throwing around in the backyard. Second, I completely disagree with the notion that there is no added degree of skill in handling the ball with the feet as opposed to the hands.
Sure handling the ball is more skilled with your feet (I should have clarified my last response more in that I was talking about the kicking v throwing argument). But we were on the throwing argument.

Added degree of difficulty however doesn't always make the product more compelling. In this case the added degree of difficulty in "dribbling" with your feet might be one of the reasons I don't like soccer. Watching people kick a ball around isn't something I enjoy and I've given it plenty of chances.

I still believe handball most definitely takes skill and enough where I'm not turned away by a lack of skill (like the Olympic sport of walking).

I'll absolutely agree with this and depart the thread. Enjoy your Olympics.

I guess after reading this thread handball had been talked up a little too much as I was a little disappointed with it. It's alright, but it just seems like all you have to do is bull rush your way to the shaded area and jump as far as you can at the goalie before throwing the ball at the last second before your feet hit the floor. An NFL linebacker would be unstoppable I would think.

And with regard to soccer comparrisons, to each his own I guess, but the match yesterday between Great Brittan and UAE was very exciting. It was amazing watching Ryan Giggs at 38 years of age, he played wonderfully against mostly much younger players as I think the Olympic teams are made up of U23 clubs with a few older players allowed on each side.

Oh man. It's not even worth having a TV if you can't DVR.

Sorry ... I didn't find it very interesting. It looks like one of those sports we made up to play in the back yard back in the day. I see very little skill and I found it a little boring. Defense ... line up in a straight line and make the shooter jump. Goalie ... worthless. If you block one it is luck. I am with TOG ... a different kind of dodgeball. I leave this event to those of you who enjoy it. I am

I have actually played the game of Handball before. It is an intramural sport out at Oklahoma State. I played goalie for a little while and also as a striker. With the size and athleticism that the guys in the Olympics have, a goalie really is worthless for the most part. However, with average sized human beings, they really can block quite a few balls. It's very tough though.

We played in PE during high school and I remember it being very enjoyable.
