PH's Surgery Update: Today Was His Surgery.
We are now home. PH had his stint removed and another put in (from the damage from the kidney stone). He has a cath for about a week more. The radiation has taken its toll on his bladder and kidney on the right side. There will be more surgeries in the future to try and improve the problems. The bladder and kidney on the left side are normal and healthy, however, the doctor does not know if radiation will be a factor for these parts in the future or not...that is why he decided not to take the right kidney. There are a couple of options for PH and his doctor to decide upon. One is having the stint changed every six months....which means major surgery twice a year. The other is to have a tube coming from his kidney out his back on the right hand side. He would be urinating out of a bag on his back as well as the "normal" way. The upside to this option is that to change the tube, he would not have to have surgery. The down side is it could cause more damage....and the downside of the stint surgery would be it could cause more damage and infections. So....this is where we stand right now. He does not have to decide for another week to two weeks....so, I will let you know when I know!
He has been through soooo much lately that I feel so bad for him, however, he is just happy to be alive. He is in a lot of pain right now, but, is looking forward to going to the Homecoming Game tomorrow, amazing!!! I would be in bed feeling sorry for myself LOL!
By the way, today PH is a 24 year cancer SURVIVOR!!!!!!

Are we talking about a nephrostomy tube?

I've never met you or Mr. PH but your health related issue, are heart-wrenching and inspiring, at the same time.
Reading about everything he goes through, moves one to tears. At the same time, the positive attitude lights up a dark room.
May God bless you and Mr. PH....An inspiration for life, to many.

To BF, yes to your answer about the tube.
To everyone else as well as BF, thank you so much. You all are the amazing ones! You have become a big part of our lives that we could not, nor would not, replace. Your prayers and thoughts have done so much to enable us to get through some of the hard times! Thank you is not near what I have in my heart, but, there is nothing more in our vocab that even comes close to how we feel about you all and your support!

The PH's really kind make me ashamed of myself, when I'm sitting here hating life for my own problems, they truly do pale in comparisson to what you guys have gone/going through. You guys truly are an inspiration!

It's true what they say about hindsight being 20/20...I would not have been able to attend the BGHS/Trinity game had it taken place when it was supposed to, 30 August! I was meant to be at that game!
Instead, I had it to the day 24 YEARS after my cancer surgery at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH, and the very next night, I was able to attend *the whole game* on Homecoming Night against North Hardin, proving once again that there's a reason why they call me Bulldog...!!
Thanx to all who have shared your thoughts, your faith, and your strength, particularly in the past 45 months (man, has it been THAT long??). But then, that's what a true family does, and we have as true a family here as any! Thank Goodness we only have to go across town to The Swamp at Greenwood next week...!!
