Once in a Blue Moon
Ever hear the phrase "once in a blue moon" when referring to something rare?
This Friday, Aug 31, 2012 we will have the last "blue moon" until Jul 31, 2015.
Without cheating, what does that actually mean? Will the moon actually be blue in color?

Two full moons in the same month.

Nope. It means that it is the second full moon of the month, which is rare, as the lunar cycle is 29.5 days. It has zero astronomical significance, but is fun to talk about.
